glad that you got it fixed back up. During the winter, I view any cycling effort as a good thing. On the plus side, this year's festive carb overload wasn't so bad.

Thanks. Yea on anything is better than nothing and I did pretty good on the Christmas dinner diet as well, small group, so really did not have a large menu. It was nice not to have a bunch of leftovers to deal with. I am down about 15 lbs this year and freezing right now, lol. I let my dog out and realized it was colder than I thought it was supposed to get, so I had to put the pipe warmer on my irrigation pump. It was a nice balmy 37 on my back patio. Supposed to be colder Saturday ight so I guess I need to replace the insulation I removed last spring as it was old and coming apart and never got back to it, you know not being cold anymore, I would do it later. Well, today is official later I guess.

Got in 42 miles solo today. 'Freezing' cold here in south-central Florida today .... 61F. I pretty much had my winter gear on Had to re-route mid-ride due to a road closing from a fatal accident

After a couple weeks off and a week of trainer riding, back out on the road today. A "flat" ride by local standards, 64 miles, 5k' of climbing. I haven't done this loop in a couple years, I forgot how much I enjoy it...it even has the California version of a cobbled climb lol(abysmal pavement.) I even hit 1200 watts sprinting away from a loose, agro dog.

He was on the bottom of a short, 2 minute climb too...he kept pace with me most of the way. My pacing strategy was perfect over that climb lol...he started to close in on me near the top, so I sprinted for it once I saw the crest.

Not me, I'm quite a bit north of there. I'm on the west slope of the Sierra...IIRC, you have family or friends in Auburn. In relation to Auburn, I'm about 1.5 hours drive time to the south and east of there. Up about at the 4k' level in elevation, kinda at the top of the "developed area," after that just miles of Forest Service land.

Thought about it for a second, before suddenly realizing that wouldn't be very prudent. I swear I went for years without being chased by a dog. This year, I've been legitimately chased about 1/2 dozen times. I could be off base on this assertion, but we have a lot of people that have recently moved up from the cities and I think they kinda have a laissez faire approach to dog handling now that they are out in the country. The long time locals know that there are local ordinances that allow for the shooting of loose dogs, so they are a lot more careful about it.

I know 49 well, but not 88 in your vicinity. Learned to drive on Sheep Camp Rd near Murphys. Where you live its no wonder you get such massive climbing. HNY

I've been through Murphys on multiple occasions, I often go through Sheep Ranch rd on the motorcycles. I really like Highway 4, the "alpine" area up over Pacific grade and Ebbett's Pass is my favorite cycling road and I usually make it over there a handful of times during the summer. Hwy 88 isn't nearly as bike-friendly as the top section of 4, but there are some epic mtb trails up 88, near/at the crest.

Yes, not really many options here that don't include lots of climbing. Just the geography of the west slope of the Sierra, we don't really have valleys, just steep river drainages...so just about every section of road is up or down. Just to get my climbing numbers down to less than the golden 100'/1mile ratio, I have to ride west of 49 and down into the front country.

Happy new year! I'm being boring this year and not partying...some friends and I did our last dirt moto ride of the year today, so that's enough celebration for me.

32 miles and 4800' gain today...it included a little 1.6 mile climb at 12%, that has become one of my favorite training hills. I set a PR on it today, I think taking the weight-weenie climbing bike helped that.

21-spot in palm springs from 7am-9am on january 1st. not the warmest for this wimp. minimal traffic. turned into my version of a really nice day
once back to the start point/reality. twas in the mid/upper-60's after 9am. beautiful views were super clear at least.

Made it out at 9:33pm yesterday for 11.11 miles to keep the 4 day 2024 riding streak going. Couldn't get out early thanks to a PSMA/CT PET Scan to see if/where my Prostate Cancer has returned (metastasized) so not the best way to start off the New Year.
