I’m looing at a new(to me) bike and it has 26” wheels. I have a Much nicer set of 650b wheels than what’s on the bike. I’ve looked around online and read people saying they just put 650b wheels on their bike and everything was just great. Then I’ve ready some cycling websites that say you shouldn’t. Anyone here have any first hand experience or advice for or against the swap?

It is what people did before 650b frames became a thing. The geometry will change somewhat. You'll need to replace your stock fork with one designed with clearances for 650b tires. Your rear triangle might or might not have space to accommodate the larger wheels. I run a 26er bike with a 650b fork. I do notice the difference in geometry, but it's not bothersome.
