Saddle seems a little bit too short for this bike and also the inclination of the seatpost is rather dangerous.

It's really close to mine, so I can make a comparison from the visible numbers.
Can't see the model, but it's definitely a 1978.
The '5' would indicate a 25" frame.
The details look similar to mine, so TX700 is a possibility, but the model code does not like like an "H" to me.

Proflex 254 700C hybrid for $50 in PA. These originally came with a Flexstem and this one also looks like it has dead rear elastomers. But a quaint piece.

I concur with the characters you have identified. [extra incentive since it is a 25.5" frame, the size I ride]

It looks to me like the serial number is G5G8K03. TX700 or 700-level, corroborated by the Reynolds 531 decals everywhere. 5 for the tall height for sure. G for July build date (it could be a C but I see a faint horizontal stamping in the middle of it). 8 for 1978. K03 for the sequence number. The brazing from the blades and stays to the dropouts is also indicative of a 500-level or 700-level frame (and up).

Haha, thanks! If it makes you or any of us feel any better, that guy's asking price and shipping price, especially given the condition (and misidentification), is much too high. Well, at least in my opinion. It shouldn't be $50 (I'm not crazy), but yeah, a good deal of moderation on price would be helpful. Even if one did overpay, it's a kick-butt full 531 frame from Trek. One cannot lose at all with that.

It's that thing (of course) on the bike's seatpost (again, of course) designed to let you use your handlebar bag behind you instead of in front of you, as shown in the photo of my old PX-10 with Eclipse bag.

On the SPT -- that is so cool! I haven't seen one of those since the mid-90s.

They were popular with a nearby cycling club back then. The only time I ever saw them was on multi-day organized rides where we were overtaken on the last day by hordes of hardbodies racing to the finish line. More than a few of them had Cannondale bar bags mounted as shown. Now I know how they did it

In a fairly recent thread, someone was looking for Campagnolo pedal dust caps. Can't find that thread now.

This eBay source has 4 sets. Price seems reasonable ($25 plus tax, shipped, in US). Listing says "Free shipping world wide" - great if true, but caveat emptor recommended. Listing does not say which Campagnolo pedals they fit. Vendor is in Serbia.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/293463141482

Hope this helps someone out.
