Newbie with newly acquired "Miyata" Ninety
Hi guys, I am a newbie in this forum as well as riding a classic street bike. I hope you enjoy my newly acquired "Miyata" Ninety, and in the meantime, I hope some of you can answer some of my questions.
The bike looks great overall!
Decal colour looks weird? maybe...
Again, decal looks odd...
Made in Taiwan decal.. SURE...
At least it is approved by Miyata...
It says "Special Tubing" not spline tubing like other miyatas....
It has pretty good parts
Is this original saddle?
Some sort of serial number. Google doesn't tell me much on this
I paid 160$ CAD for it, and I did some brief research beforehand. But I still have a few concerns regarding it:
1) According from the pictures, the decals seem to be different than other Miyata ninety out there, so did I buy a fake one?
2) If it is not fake, could anyone of you tell me what year was this made? I can't seem to find any Miyata ninety that are made in Taiwan
3) Any downside if this is a fake Miyata?
Thank you for all of your time, and hope you enjoy the photos.

Still learning
You did fine, it looks clean. No one is going to go to the effort to counterfeit an entry level Miyata.

I believe that's a 1988 Miyata 90.
Reasoning:
- The catalog calls the tubes on that particular year "special steel-tubes"
- The decals match the higher level bikes
- Unfortunately the a picture of the bike was not available in this catalog but all of the details are here: Miyata Bicycle Catalogs: Miyata Catalog 1988 on image 27
- The 90 was not available in '89 and none of the other years had the "special steel-tubes"
Cheers!

In general, what kind of maintenance should I be aware of when taking care of these kind of classic bike? and How should I clean off the bike body, and some "rust spots" on the chrome handle bar?
Thanks
