Shimano SL-7700 9 Speed down tube shifter.

I have had these on my bicycle for fifteen years. I think I tried them in SIS mode a long time ago, but they have pretty much always been on friction mode. I have an itch to try them in SIS mode, but I don't think they want to switch. I think that I remember that you twist the bail and move the arrow from FRICTION to SIS to make the change, but the bail doesn't want to move and FRICTION must have been rubbed off by many thousands of shifts because it's not there anymore. Do any of you mechanics think this is just stuck due to age and that I'd be better off leaving it alone, or is there a trick that I don't remember.

Probably just stiff from lack of use. I’d shoot a little WD 40 in there to see if it loosens up. There’s no real trick to turning the D ring.

I have not yet successfully used SIS mode; however, I have never had matching components. For example a matching, SIS Shifter, SIS Derailleur, and SIS Freewheel... SIS Chain?

After many many hours and attempts its a real admission of failure.

Might need to tweak things a bit to adjust SIS shifting once it moves.

Maybe some PB Blaster will loosen it up

You should probably just bin those levers. Send them to me and I'll take care of that for you.
