Holdsworth Project
Just acquired this baby blue Holdsworth.Quite a mix of components and an odd setup.Campagnolo dropouts.Serial number 43873.Need to research for date Do i go with Suntour,shimano or campagnolo? Love a new project

I picked up this '81 Holdsworth Special a few days ago. It is a mix of mostly low end components. I have it all broken down. Initially I was going to build it up with period correct Shimano 600 components but decided to go the Suntour Cyclone route instead. My '72 Holdsworth Professional is built with Campy Nuovo Record components. This is for my granddaughter in a few (quite a few actually) years.

Found the remnants of a Mistral decal on top tube, just need to figure out what year it was made and what it would have been speced with.

frame is likely a '76 Mistral, but is that fork correct? I admit mine is approx. same year but it's a SUPER Mistral so came with a full-sloping crown.
This crown seems "chunkier" than any Holdsworth Mistral fork I've seen (but haven't seen them all) if there's a matching serial number on the steerer, then...nevermind...
Since Holdsworthy was the UK importer for Campagnolo you can hardly do wrong with Campy, but also no reason to be fanatical, either. Nobody is going to come after you if you have Shimano, Sun Tour, etc. stuff on this frame that you like and works for you...I happen to use a Crane RD on my Super Mistral, so there!

1976 Catalog states the fork crown has a “semi sloping shoulder”. I think yours is probably correct but like unworthy1, I haven’t seen them all either. According to that same catalog, the Mistral in 76 came as a fully built bicycle with Campagnolo Nuovo Record components and Universal 61 side pull brakes….or as a frame only. Which means any period correct build you choose will be plenty accurate. Nice bike!
