Reading in the saddle?
Hey all,
I was having a nice little afternoon riding around on the local Greenway when I was shocked by what I encountered. I found a man riding and reading AT THE SAME TIME!
He swerved around quite a bit, but by the time he reached me, he was safely on his side of the path.
I'm wondering, does anyone here have any experience with bookworm cyclists... or are YOU one of them?
Shalom

That's a new one on me, and I ride the greenway quite a bit.
My biggest problem is walkers/riders/joggers on the wrong side of the path or going right down the middle. I'm not sure why so many have trouble staying on the right hand side of the trail. I would think it should be intuitive since that's how we travel on roads.
I'll keep an Eye out for bookworms!

I have seen that before (reading a book while cycling *and* reading a book/newspaper while driving). I'm not sure how either really works, although the former is somewhat less of a threat to others than the latter (both are threats to themselves).
maybe they regularly use mass transit, and thus forget how they can't do this when they're at the handlebar/wheel? it does seem crazy to me.

We saw someone sailing past our shop on his bike with both hands on his book. He nearly crashed into a car which was pretty funny but it didn't stop him. Who hops on their bike and thinks 'I know, I'd better get my book out'.... YOU'RE NOT COOL!!!!

Wow, never seen that one before. I do see plenty of college students texting while biking though (also seems not safe).

Well, in a country where half the population don't believe in Darwinism, it shouldn't be too surprising to meet a candidate for the Darwin Award

I wouldn't ever advise that, but to most young people these days a phone is a tool that you can use with your eyes closed. Pre-touch screen phones I could have done anything on my phone with a blindfold on. It really isn't as dangerous as you might think - it is no worse than fiddling with the Bike computer display, getting your water bottle out, adjusting your pockets...

Although perhaps not desirable, at least from the Captains point of view!
