Are these hoods something special?

I was about to trim them to fit campy levers while I seek out proper GLOBE hoods, then it occurred to me that they could mean more to someone else.

Look like the early 70’s Universal center pull’s lever hoods that came on my ‘72 Botty Special.

I’ll put good money on either juvela or repechage identifying them in a few minutes.

They are special, in the sense that they seem to hold up better than almost all other hoods.

Mine came on a pair of unbranded levers:

Thanx, proves that my memory isn’t as good as it ever was, and not as good once, either🫣. Those do bring back some fond memories though👍

Bingo!

they appear to be replicas of a hood introduced by Weinmann in the mid-1970's with a semi-anatomic shape which was designed to be a good fit on standard Weinmann road levers

no guesses as to who the producer may be

Thanx much! My 72 Special was white, their paint was so fragile and flaked off in large pieces. I have a CroMor in white to get built up for my wife. Hopefully I can do a better repaint on it.

have never known the vendor for the Balilla/Galli booties

would love to find some of the old pattern ones with the red/white hotstamp

some Italian manufacturers employed Atalanta Gomma

IIRC Fratelli Pietra used Vittoria S.p.A. - but they only launched in '53 so do not know who they would have employed prior to that
