Complete unlabeled brake levers

Should read “completely” not complete.

Any ideas? Likely need a ferrule at the cable entry.

Decently light.

They look like the unperforated version of the Universal CX lever.

Or possibly Model 77? The shape definitely fits either...great call.

Didn't think of Universal at all...was leaning toward it being an early Modolo prototype of sorts.

@juvela and @T-Mar why would they have no markings whatsoever and no engravings on the front?

Thats the curious part...

I'd say they are 705's.

Have a pair of 706's on my desk right now:

That looks about like it. Model CX (705) levers.

Thanks! No idea what I will do with them, but at least I know!

Dave, do you have the adjuster ferrules for the tops?

They look like great levers in need of custom leather hoods.

Growing up with those logo-free (except on the hoods) 51/61/68 brake levers is what immediately screamed "Universal" to me for the subject levers. However, I knew they weren't one of those models, as they had a much more sculpted and comfortable looking body (which was long overdue). I've never owned either but I believe the the 77 and CX levers actually use the same lever blade and body, with the only difference being the cable adjuster versus cable stop.

Retaining a logo-free option would have been a cost effective alternative to perforated levers that might have appealed to some traditionalists. However, I wonder it might be more than just past practice? They may also have been trying to increase their market with the boutique builders, as they now had beefier side-pulls on par with Campagnolo. Optional, logo-free, unperforated levers provided maximum real estate for applying bicycle brand pantographing, which was popular on high grade Italian bicycles of the era.

The perforated levers appear to have been a response to Campagnolo's recently introduced Super Record levers but they don't provide many options for pantographing. Since there were less pantographing options maybe they decided they should apply a logo too. It certianly provides a more balanced appearance. So, like Campagnolo, Universal offered bothunperforated and perforated levers. It's also worth noting that once Universal added an embossed logo to the lever, how much it resembled Campagnolo's logo.

Unfortunately not. I sort of happened into them. More curious than in need of the levers...not sure what I will do with them.

If you want to use them, the Weinmann type ferrules should work (see below), and hoods can be obtained from Tre Emme, among others. Got a set in black for mine:
