To be perfectly honest, my ride today sucked. I'm putting in wayyy too much training time. Today and yesterday, my hamstrings were so tight that it was painful to stretch. Usually I can put my palms on the ground, and today I was in pain trying to touch my toes. The prescription? Two days off. My roommate is doing a pro women's kermesse on Sunday to prep for the Ronde, so I'll be her support crew.
Again, to be honest, I'm just happy that I haven't had to wash my bike for three days running.

I rode 350 miles last week, and come monday my legs were worthless. I did 45mins on rollers and it was absolute crap.
Take a day to rest, eat well, drink up and take your vitamins!
BTW, are you cramping from the training stress?

No cramping, just tightness. I think it's because I'm a little bit under-hydrated (as in water). Also some of the supplements I'm taking may be soaking up some water. The power is where is should be for this time of year, but the volume isn't. In all, I'm pretty pleased with my power. The couple that own the house we all live in are involved with cycling too, the husband was a pro until 2007, and his wife was a soigneur, so I'll see if she'll fix me up.

nothing wrong with that. better he drinks and learns to enjoy a good beer like Duvel or Chimay than to get hammered on budlight. and by enjoy, i mean no more than 1/4 of the bottle at a time.

It snowed in the mountain fo Belgium today. I was climbing a 2-3 mile long climb in Geraardsbergen after hitting the Kapel Muur and saw who I believe to be Fabian Cancellara.
This rider was on a Specialized S-Works, and wore all black, matching Assos winter kit, Oakley Radars, and gigantic legs.
This is the first potential pro sighting I've been really excited for.
Yesterday I was a soigneur for the day at a womens pro kermesse for my roommate. I saw Liz Hatch again, and I was going to get a video of her for a certain BF member, but the staging was chaos, and my roommate didn't break the ice for me. Emma Johannsen won... Again.

I have to keep on reminding myself that I've already lived my athletic dream of a lifetime (playing some pretty high level collegiate sports), but damn, I wish I was 19 and in Belgium riding a bicycle
Have fun!

Wow what a way to take life by the balls and do something you love. I wish I took that plunge many moons ago. But we all pave our own paths. Love the postings....

I don't know, BillyD! From the time I was ten until the time I graduated from college my life revolved around my sport. I had an older brother so started playing really young and played pretty much daily (or practiced) for around twelve years. Then, it was all over and I was really confused with what to do with my life...life dream done at 22...Plus, I hated my coach, as did most guys on the team. He was fired right after our senior year.
I spent some time living abroad and that was great, allowed me to sort my head and spirits out in a unique place.
The funny thing is that now that I'm an "adult" I'm supposed to be focussed on my career, job, family, etc. But, cycling is now my main passion! I've kind of puttered around a bit too much in the last year, with nothing to show for it but some pretty strong cycling skills. I thought I'd wasted a year, but looking at it like that, I realize I've gained a new athletic talent. I'm finally forcing myself to focus on my work more, but cycling is great because for me, I need to challenge my body physically in order to focus mentally.
The only bad thing is that my body doesn't quite respond to physical exertion now like it used to. Soreness, stiff muscles, etc. all take much, much longer to heal. But, I am happy to say that it looks like cycling will be a great lifetime sport for me.
Though...I still kind of can't believe my top-notch athletic days are over And, on top of my body going, I simply can't drink and recover like I could when in college. It is hardly worth getting drunk anymore, as I suffer the next day

Don't dwell on the past too much. It's not that big a deal. You'll get used to the changes. Sure your capabilities have slipped from your prime, but you can still enjoy yourself athletically. In addition to biking maybe you can still find a team and enjoy your sport, just on another level. That can take you a long way, perhaps well into your 50's and beyond.
I played competitive basketball up until age 55. I couldn't do what I used to do, but I still had fun playing the game. It's all about enjoying life, one way or another.
Now back to our regularly scheduled topic.

I found out why it's so windy here; Because Holland sucks and France blows.
Todays Lesson: Caffeine should be a banned substance. My legs are hurting after my second ride now.
Todays Survey: 4 out of 5 Aston Martin drivers are d-bags. Yes, I have actually encountered 5 Aston Martins while here.

Moar pics?
Here's a brief one. One of the scariest things I've ever done;
My first time driving in almost 4 weeks. My first time driving in Belgium, which happens to be my first time driving a wrong-hand drive car, in a country that drives on the right side, the car is a 5-speed, which requires use of my almost useless left arm, which happens to be a freaking Smart car, with two gabbing British girls yapping away next to me, on the freeway. The car barely had enough torque to twist a cap off of a Coke bottle, and we were all crammed into this useless little automobile the size of a shower, except less sexy.
Here's me driving down a dirt road. I was soigneur for the day at my roommates race...
Pizza afterwards. I've come to realize that the real athletes in this sport are the spectators. We stand in the cold for 3 hours just to watch Emma Johansson win [again].
