Went to the local race ride this morning (Spectrum), planned to sit in except for the main sprints; saving legs for tomorrow. Hung out with @Ygduf at the back when he wasn't at the front drilling it.
Took the Hwy 92 sprint from waaaay back in the pack.
Led out my teammate at the Firehouse sprint (he won).
Received a leadout from my teammate at the Stanford sprint, took it handily.
All systems pro for tomorrow!

Well I did 54 miles as planned but it wasn't quick. At least it was early! Did the "Hills of SF" ride from Rapha. Over 7000 feet all in the city. Finish at the "clubhouse" (shop) for beers and burritos. 4.5 hours, 280 TSS

Went out for a long ride as planned today. Started out mildly chilly and foggy, but warmed up nicely for most of the ride. Didn't beat the crap out of myself quite as planned, because I suspected some fatigue from all those hills yesterday would crop up mid ride if I went out too hard.
So I brought a ton of food and sodium-laden things so I wouldn't repeat last weekend, and hit the first 30 minute hill at a moderate 90%. Descended to the coast (had to pass a few super slow cars... Can't they read the sign that says "slower traffic use pull out"?) and start riding tempo but think better and pull back to zone 2, 4 on the rollers. Stopped for tacos at point Reyes station mid ride, but no time to dilly dally.
Get to the next big climb. Take it a bit easier (28' at 87%) because my plan was to torture myself on the 15' stairstep rollers after the summit. And that I did. Pretty much died after 5 of the 7 hills but pushed on and sprinted the finish. Descend, then z2 most of the way home.
5.5 hours, 300 TSS
Bigger weekend than I've been doing lately, needed it though. Glad I skipped the frustrating crit mattm posted about today.

One more thing. The highlight of the hills of SF ride yesterday was the single block of cobbles at 31.5% grade. Over half the group walked it.

I swore a lot when I wasn't choking or coughing up phlegm while forcing myself through a 50'/mi ride. Not such a happy individual these days.
Those cobbles sound fun with 28c or a little bigger tires and time to put air back in them while everyone else hoofs it up.

This weekend felt like I was riding on the surface of the sun. Overnight lows in the 90s and well over 100 by 9am :-( So dehydrated this morning, drinking water is a part time job! Why do I live here? It's not natural lol

Rapha rides are a bad subject for me. Massive, state closed down entire first ring highways for the Summer to prepare for hosting the Superbowl, roadworks on the other hand are proving to be a boon for cycling. I underinflated my tires and did a good 10 miles of awful rutted bumpy impeccably rock free dirt yesterday before tacking on hills. None of which happened in b/w under epic conditions.

Ugh ... first day back at work after vacation suuuuuuuuccccckkkkks.
Wife and I went to Hawaii (big island) for a wedding last week. Rented a bike (allez sprint) and snuck in a few rides while there. The stem was too short and they couldn't anything longer than a 110. Other than being a bit cramped, all was well.
The riding there is both good and bad. Plenty of climbing, wide shoulders, and smooth roads made for a decent experience. The downer is that we were tucked away in resort-ville, so not many roads to choose from. Either going flat and around the island or up/down into the center of the island. Wind was rough, too. Pedaling down a 7% grade just keep moving forward wasn't much fun.
Nonetheless, 5 ish hours of riding on some new turf.

I found that number online from a list of the steepest streets in SF. We climbed several of the streets on the list.
Looks almost the same!
There's a similar hill in Pittsburgh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSGgbaFumkQ
Canton Road is 35% for 350m. It's officially the steepest public street in the US.

Too hot to ride outside for my meager PNW body. So I sat on the trainer watching breaking bad for the 2nd time through. 75 minutes, >50 of which somewhere around the sweet spot / up to 90 % of ftp.

Hahahaha I just plugged the weekend into my PMC today: +28 to -39 in 9 days after rest week... Did I overdo it? Tomorrow will tell. Or maybe play it safe and wait until Wednesday haha.

Nice. Whats your FTP?? Not trying to size you up, I'd just like to try a similar workout myself.
Over here, I'm getting ready to head out the door on my MTB commute.
