For the same price the Swift2 is looking better (besides the tires). The Dawes SST comes with either 25c or 28c... if I can get the latter then I'd probably go for that one as my first super cheap bike (of this kind).

Oh, never mind, it looks like they increased the price, and it's over $300 now, but not by much.
Where did you get that link for the draft? When you go to their site that specific painting scheme doesn't show up. I kind of like the crazy 70's look.

It's a combination of the weather and exhaustion, I think.

I'm half surprised that you didn't take the chance to caution the OP about CF forks- especially ones that come on BD bikes...

Dunno about you, but the Draft w/coaster looks the same on their site as the one in the link AdamDZ posted...

The thing about Carbon Fiber is that is incredibly light and strong, but durability is questionable. A deep enough scratch will weaken it, and thus becomes potentially dangerous to you. Also, you're ordering from BD- who ships UPS Ground. I know first hand what kind of abuse packages in their care go through. The fork could be damaged while in transit to you, then you have to get a RMA to exchange the fork. Which means even more time before you can take your new steed for a spin.

It's your money, get whatever you want. I understand the appeal of BD, but I'm starting to get the impression that you are obsessing over weight and aesthetic. You come from a BMX, right? These SS/FG track bikes from BD are an entirely different critter altogether. Maybe you should go hit some of the local bike shops in your area and go for some test rides before ordering. If nothing else, it should help you get a better understanding of what size frame to get.

He went from the Timeline last night to either the Swift2 or Dawes SST today...

I don't know. I think I'm gonna wait till summer. I kind of like the SE Draft but it looks too much like a hipster bike. I can't find a black one for sale either. Only the purple and the red. If anyone finds the black on for around $200 let me know.

Besides that I'm pissed that all the bikes I like from BD have like 1 thing wrong about them. I'm so annoyed I might just spend $700 on a bike and be done with it.

Out of curiosity, what's the one thing that you feel is "wrong" about the BD models that liked?

Well as for the timeline only the black one is in stock. The pedals come with those strap things, I don't know if I'd like that. And the brakes that come with it are "FREE" so they're probably not good.

The swift2 is aluminum. Dawes SST Steel has bad parts I heard. Then there's the UNO one, and I don't like its tire pattern. And I'm not sure if those Shorty brakes are any good. I like how they look though. The other nice ones are all fixies so that's automatically a no.

If I were getting a single speed bike, it would jolly well have a coaster rear brake. Why simplify the bike, then clutter it up with an extra cable?

I'd still want a front brake though. And a chainguard, fenders, and rack. You may be able to do without the rack, but doing without fenders is ill-advised. Make sure the bike you get at least has attachment points for these things.

Also, if you want fast, you're not doing yourself any favors by going with a single speed.

1. Toe straps/clips are removable.
2. Those 'free' brakes are functional. Upgrade later if you don't like them.
3. The aluminum won't rust- but can you tell the difference in ride characteristics between frame material without looking at the specs?
4. The parts on the SST will work- again, upgrade when you need or feel like.
5. The tires on the Uno can be swapped out.

You could always get your feet wet instead so to speak... buy a steel road bike, drop off the derailers and shifters, get a freewheel tool and a new freewheel for it, and drop the front crank off. My SS is of similar concept.. and technically since it came completely from my parts bin was a freebie.

Yo, OP! I think I may have found something for you. Cro-mo frame, SS, your choice of flat or drop bar for $249. You may have to get inventive mounting a rack, but you wouldn't be the first one to do so...

No, for me it shows up as a sort of topaz color. I'm not looking for coaster brakes either... but still, that's weird. I'm in Canada, so I wonder if it has something to do with that? We often have different sites up here, but the address itself is showing up the same so they should be the same bikes.

It depends on the frame/fork clearances. Typically, 28's should fit, but the 32's may or may not on a bike that comes with 25's.

I've narrowed it down to the Timeline or the Clockwork. Same price and almost same specs except for wheelsize (and maybe other things I didn't notice). I really like the orange clockwork (Clockwork Orange!?) and I can get really cheap 28 wheels if the 25 are too thin for me.
