Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So I told the wife the cycle cross bike is going to be 4 grand. She sighed, and said maybe for my birthday. which is cool, but my birthday marks the end of cycle cross season. So I started showing her bikes on Pro Closet. She said absolutely not a used bike. Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing but that’s my current situation.

Worse case I get the CAAD X for 1800 new, but I would rather not get something that I will instantly want to change. Plus I am pretty sure that comes with 105.

105 works great for CX.

I think the $1800 CAADX comes with one of the GRX variants.

Mail call!

A couple of HPXes to cut down on moving pumps from bike to bike all the time, and some fresh tyres, as I've a couple of 26ers pretty much worn out.

I didn't think people spent a lot of money on CX bikes because they get pretty trashed by mud and grit. I know some mud races you can have a second bike in the pits and switch bikes every lap and your pit crew cleans them during the race. My friends have had extra wheels in the pits and at mud races they provide a garden hose to knock most of the mud off after the race.
For a lot of cross races I don't see how a bike can make much difference as long as it's working.

Ryan Trebon rode his MTB with the Lefty fork at a damp race in Vancouver, USA. I guess he figured it wasn't a UCI event, so might as well have fun. I bet his XC rig was only a pound or so heavier than his CX rig back then...

Same here, no bike list or part lust at all. Mostly just hand wringing on whether or not I’m going to try Strada Bianca 33s for a tire, they’ve been in my cart for days.

GRX is great too. I have 810 on the Aspero and don’t miss Di2.

At the other end of the frame pump spectrum; I picked up one of these for the commuter yesterday.

Yeah, CX bikes shouldn't be too precious. Serious racers with a $4k budget are going to get a second set of wheels or a second bike.

Wordle considers it a win if you get the word within six. Today was unusual in that I felt like guessing after the first two scanning words I always use. Normally I use three scanning words and play to get it in four.
