My Trojan Bob Jackson is complete
Decided to go with Daytona 10 instead of Chorus 10. Running 28mm GP4 Seasons and 32mm wide fenders. There is about 2mm of space on each side of the fender so there's no way I can run 32mm tires with 42mm fenders. I was told it should be able to fit that but I don't see how it would fit. Oh well. I'm still happy with it.

When you say you've got 2mm of space on each side of the fender, do you mean that the fender doesn't touch the fork blades by 2mm on each side? It's common to run fenders slightly wider than the fenders and just dimple the sides.
This from @southpawboston:
More on how to from the fender and lighting boss

If it's the latter, a little carving out with a Dremel tool can make the wider fenders fit in there, if you have he vertical clearance under the fork crown and the brake bridge. On those soft aluminum fenders, it's pretty easy work to do.
EDIT: Yeah, like Gugie said, above. Bend, (or cut) where needed.

It turned out great! I like all the components, new with a classic look, all silver--especially the Paul center pulls. Well done.

Thanks for the comments fellas! Some more pics, of the 2mm distance of the fender to stays & for @knucks who requested some of the cable routing. At the BB, I used a cable liner to protect the frame from cable rub.

Nice!
Yes, I plan on dimpling my 45mm fenders on my Audax. It'll fit man!!!
Good call on the Paul mounts - dont know if you even considered it, but are those the M or the regular, will 650b also be possible on this bike?

I was told 32mm tires would fit w fenders, but depends on the tires.
Also I dont know what Donald@BJ's take is on fender clearance when compared to what Jan @ Compass thinks.
Compass says tire width * 1.4 = fender width, but larger is better. *I* will be mounting 45mm Honjo fenders that will require some dimpling

Wow, that does look awesome. After all the worrying it came out great.
I would have though that the hammered fenders are too much, but they are kind of overwhelmed by the flamboyant paint job, and it somehow all works. I tried setting a VO hammered fender set in my Mercian for a visual test, and it looked just wrong.
Are you sure those 28c tires are really 28? My conti 700x25 tires measure 28.0mm on A23 rims. It looks to me like you have room to squeeze 42mm fenders in there, but it's hard to see from the pics. As pointed out, dimpling the sides may be necessary if metal fenders are used. FWIW, SKS have about 1mm more clearance on each side than VO, because of lack of rolled edge.

Is your BJ an Audax or World Tour model? I have owned a BJ World Tour for 6-7 years, and have used it extensively for commuting, touring and overall riding. Although the tire clearance isn't as much as some touring bikes, it has plenty of room for 45 mm fenders (mine are Planet Bike Cascadias). The 45 mm fenders are the perfect width for 28-35 mm tires. Currently I'm running Vittoria Voyager Hyper 32s on mine.

Nice build. Don't fret about the tire size. I spent several years switching between 28's & 32's. Finally settled on the 28's, in retrospect, the 32's seemed to be just too much unless I was on really poor pavement.

Donald@BJ said they "should" fit but it wasn't a resounding confident tone.

Yep, taking your advice and sticking with the 28mm 4Seasons. Love these tires in 25, so I'm assuming I love them in 28s too.

the terrain here is pretty awful for 28s for 'all around riding' so i was hoping to be able to do 32 with fenders, donald said it 'should' work so we'll see. I'm hoping that with the 45mm there will be ample clearance for the 30 i currently have, then ill try some 32s

I always thought the fenders just had to be 10 mm wider, no matter what tire size. I got 40's to go with 28 tires on my Bob Jackson, so it should work if I don't have too much dimpling to do. Their website says 28's and fenders fit, so... fingers crossed.

And you are correct, its about 10mm wider, but I decided to listen to Compass and try 45mm..can't hurt..plus if i can truly fit 32mm then that's even better
Sorry to thread derail slightly..!

Did you order an Audax E-E as well? I measured the spacing and got about 41mm, so yes, your fenders should work.

It would make it a nearly perfect all roader.
As long as you stay on streets/roads and hard pack, 28s should be fine.
I run 700 x 27 Paves on my CSI and I'm amazed at the nonsense I can ride through on those tires without incident.
At any rate, you have a good attitude about 32s not fitting.
I would have been irked rather severely.

@Ride-Fly,
I have an upgrade idea for you. Ditch the headtube decal, put one of these on:
But isn't this the same guy?
Coincidence?
I think not...

Oh, hey. I just noticed the "Trojan" tag on the thread. USC crimson and gold. @Ride-Fly, you should take that bike out into the sunlight for a nice vanity shot to post on the school colors thread I started. USC fans are the only people (so far) who have earned any smack-talking rights over my Huskies this year.
