Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't but I now wish I did. Last week coming back from a late ride in the dark I hit a patch of invisible ice while turning a corner. I was instantaneously down with a sizable road rash on my left hip and left arm/elbow. The tape has not been fun.

I shave during the winter. It does wonders for the comfort of cold weather gear.

Tights cover my legs anyway this time of year, so why shave?

^^ Oh, and rat fink - you must have some hairy legs. Ridden with plenty of winter layers with and without shaved legs and I detect zero difference.

What type and how is it set up. I have been seriously thinking of getting a cross bike with a set of studded tires.

peeling works better if you soak the bandage.
also, it's better to just leave a gauze on and use bandages over the gauze.

I was wearing tights and shorts under. Did not matter, still got a large and deep road rash. Crazy thing is the elbow rash, about 4 inches diameter, occurred with a Navara wind/rain jacket, a long sleeved wool Ibex jersey, and a long sleeve mid weight merino base layer. None of the layers were torn or damaged yet the rash was deep and bloody and extended into the bursa of the elbow.
Gauze by the way is not a good dressing choice. I have been using a bordered polyurethane foam over silver alginate. With this dressing one can keep it on without removing it for up to seven days. The less you remove the dressing the better and faster it heals.

Shaved mine today, been over a month since the last time. I received my embrocation cream yesterday and it will be much easier to apply with smooth legs.

Why? I'm not trolling and I'm not doing anything else that violates guidelines. Despite what carleton says I wasn't trolling in my ANT+ laptop thread either.

I just shaved after hairy legging it for a month or two.

Yes. My legs are beastly hairy. The hair gets matted easily and hurts like crazy if I wear socks for longer than a full day.

Aren't hairy legs faster in the wind tunnel, or is that a myth?

Sasquatch never shaves, and he is so fast that he can't be captured on film.
