Suntour Superbe derailleurs

What vintage Japanese bikes came equipped with Suntour Superbe derailleurs?
I don't think any Ceturion bikes did.

The 1982 and 1983 Lotus Competition were so equipped.

I actually sold the bike to myself at the bike shop that I worked at - 10% over cost or about $450 at that time.
Special order and have enjoyed it all these years.

There's a bit of tradition behind this, I think. For instance, at one time the Motobecane Grand Record and Grand Jubilé models came with Campy Nuovo Record and Huret Jubilee components respectively. Of course, once they started putting SunTour parts on those models things got silly.

This was actually a very nice bike. The frame is well built, uses Tange 1 tubing, and has all the sorts of nice features like chrome forged dropouts (SunTour PRO) that you'd look for on a high end bike. Sadly, mine has a big ugly dent in the top tube, and I sold off most of the Superbe parts which were pretty worn anyway.

I agree. I used to lust after the Performance catalog entries. They used to carry such cool stuff. Their bicycle catalogs from 1982-1987 were my favorite bathroom readers.

At the 2016 Classic Rendezvous gathering, Mr. Bingham displayed a 1981 Raleigh Superbe. In addition to the SunTour Superbe components, the bike was noteworthy for the pristine gold cromo-velato paint scheme! Beautiful, and no doubt delicate. A few photos of that bike....

The bikes were packed fairly tightly in the display area, and I wasn't able to get better shots, unfortunately.

I have seen a similar bike at the Bicycle Shop that I worked at back in the early 1980's. The owner had this and a Raleigh Professional and others "for sale" at that time. I came in for the usual work day and all of these High End bikes were gone. The shop was broken into the prior night or early morning.

I wonder how many of these "Golden Gems" are out there...
