Pedals sometimes are really hard to get off if you do not have shop sized tools. Make sure they are loose enough to get them off a few days in advance so you are not in a panic at the last minute.

Been there... Done that... Got the scars to prove it! Finally made a pipe extender for the pedal allen wrench. Much easier!

Unfortunately learned that the hard way through my own stupidity...
This was on a trip where we flew into Tbilisi Georgia. I was jet lagged and had the bike upside down. Somehow the combination had me get my left/right mixed up and try putting the pedals on the wrong way. Stripped my cranks. First order of business was a taxi ride to find a bike shop to get replacement cranks...
