Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

MS Kickoff ride..Rode the 45 mile option..Bout 400 riders with lots of SAG / Police support..For some reason the computer logged my 38mph bridge descent some ten minutes later on a flat, then logged my Max as 75mph but never shows a 75mph spike in the details..

Nice looking ride. I'll be doing the MS150 in about a month.

Another hot one today. It was a nice ride even though I did flat on the dirt road climb.

My first ride just to test my new GPS. I wonder how accurate the elevation data is. It's a car GPS but I couldn't justify the cost of a bike GPS.

Power Intervals (> threshold) for the first time every today. Those hurt, but were fun. Managed to hit a new max HR on the bike, which only tells me how much of a wuss I've been before.

Getting back in the groove... Picked up 3mph since last week and a pretty strong ride through the whole 55 this time.

Had the opportunity to take a few days away from work, so I'm up in Helen, GA for a few days riding. Here's today's, painful, but I thought it was pretty decent, considering that I've only ridden really flat areas for the last few months.

I just got an Edge 500 this week. I read the entire manual. Any advantage of Garmin Connect over Training Center? In Training Center, there's bike weight and gear weight, but on the Edge I only see bike weight. I'm thinking this could be a problem, and I'm not sure what's getting calculated? I'm thinking about just adding my gear weight to bike weight.

This was a bit of a milestone for me, not in distance but in the first comfortable longer ride I've been on since I let myself get really out of shape. Generally this summer the bike beat me up before I actually got tired from a cardio stand point (back hurt, saddle hurt). Finally getting back to where I was. Rode the whole 42 miles pain free (aside from some outer foot pain that sprung up right at the end. Might try some new insoles).

Spent a fair amount of time in the drops, rest of the time on the hoods. I don't have a huge saddle to bar drop, but it is significant for someone out of shape. So this was a good day.

Very nice, hope the rides continue to get easier.
