Sram shifters and RD

Ok, now I did some homework and now I'm thinking instead of XT/XTR shifters and RD, I'm thinking about Sram X 7, 9, or 0's. Am I heading in the right direction? Anyone prefer the Sram's over the Shimano's? Which do you prefer(X7, X9, or X0)? The X 0's look awesome, but how does the carbon fiber hold up in the long run? Also, I have a 12-32t(9 speed) cassette and 42-32-22 front ring, is the medium cage or Long cage RD the correct one for my setup? Thanks

Well I recently sold my bike with Sram XO and I am now down to one bike that is XT, and man am I missing Sram. When shifting with Sram your shifts are always sooo perfect no matter what condition, even the sound that the RD makes when shifting is satisfying. As for the carbon fiber on the XO it acually holds up much better than all the others, because carbon fiber will not bend. Alot of people will think that because the carbon fiber will not bend it will just snap, which is true but it also takes one hell of a hit to do so.

You are for sure on the right track going with sram, and you will be very pleased no matter what model you decide to go with.

Yes...I mix both...just make sure that the shifter and RD are comapatble...Sram ratio is 2:1, Shimano 1:1, but both make parts that work with each other's gear

i believe long cage.

probably x9 for the perf:money...as some would say regarding XT. even my x7 d and x5 twist shift combo has been working great!

please give grip shift a thought as well. they are super cool

Shimano or SRAM, you can't go wrong with either, assuming you make sure to keep ratios the same (Shimano is 2 to 1, SRAM is 1:1 -- I remember all the adverts how 1:1 was the way to go that they put out years ago. I personally like SRAM chains for Master Link functionality, but at x9 or XT level, you really can't go wrong either way.

Either way, I'm guessing with the chainrings you have, go long cage.

have you thought about ditching the larger chain ring for a light weight bash guard and using a medium cage derailleur?

...and even the ditching the front derailleur/shifter and leaving the granny on for the occasional manual use?

just some ideas

Thanks for the ideas, however, my Jekyll has to serve dual purpose, trail and street/cruise rides, I ride through neighborhoods alot with my GF(she'll do the trails with me, but she has faceplanted a couple times already ), so I need the extra gearing. And yes, I have tried the gripshifters already, and even though I really like them, I like the triggers a little better, feels more natural to me. But thanks again for convincing me on the Sram, I've nothing but good things about them!

I am a SRAM fan so I say get the XO shifters and rear derailleur. I use the medium cage with a 11-32 cassette and 22/32/46 chainrings on my bike without any trouble. I love the way my bike snaps off shifts.
