I'm sure this has been discussed to death, but the search on BF is never kind to me.

Looking for a trunk rack for wife's 2024 Lexus ES300h. She doesn't want a hitch...and....it's her car.

Only occasional use. So when we go visit the grandkids, I can go out for a ride when they drive me crazy. For one road bike, thanks.

Look at Thule or Yakima they have a fit my car section and can tell you if one will fit. Keep in mind some will not fit for good reason and because a rack is a safety device first and foremost make sure if one does actually fit it is installed properly and checked often and not left on the car all the time . It only takes on time for the rack to go flying and while it won't ever effect you it could end someone else's life or cause them damage or at least damage their car. You bike will probably be wrecked as well.

I personally am selling this;
I would have to figure shipping in or can send more pics. I run a Silverado and my wife just got a jeep Cherokee with a receiver mount. Typically we use the Receiver mount, since it has locks on it, And we now live a block from a trail.

I have an Allen rack also, and it's nice and steady, although I've never used my CF bike on it. I found it does leave rub marks on the car in a few places, but that was a non-issue since I was only mounting it on my winter beater car. Your needs may vary if you don't want any marks on your car.

Eventually I upgraded to a hitch mounted rack, which I feel is a) better for the bikes and for the car and b) more secure on longer drives.

Went to my LBS today and he convinced me to order a Sea Sucker rack. That is what he uses and I have had good experiences buying what the owner actually uses.

I just picked up one of those at Goodwill for $7.50. It fits on my Nissan Leaf well, but the side straps are sliding due to the shape of the hatch. It feels really secure and folds up very nicely. I'm sure I'll solve the side strap issue after I play around with it more.

I looked at putting it on our new Camry, but the bottom center support hits right on the plastic licence plate cover. My wife doesn't want me to put a rack on her new car anyway...

what gets tricky is the angle of the trunk's sides & where the lower center rear strap gets attached. one doesn't always have good access to the bottom of the trunk & then you go looking under the back bumper for something but everything now is made of plastic & there's no good place for it

nice me too. I had to add one from uhaul. maybe the 3rd cherokee will have an OEM hitch. but this works for me

we bought a RIDE KAC receiver mount and holy $&@% is that stout. I hang it on the wall and honestly it’s a bit of work just to hang it. It’s close to 50 lbs and my wife could never install it herself. It’s designed for E-bike weight, and neither of us have e-bikes, I have faith it won’t fail with our 20lb bikes.

I’ve used a trunk/hatchback rack for about 10 years now and will continue. No ground clearance for a receiver hitch and I’m too old for hoisting bikes up onto a roof rack. So a few thoughts:

Those Allen Sports racks are the make I most frequently see dumped at the dump for behind our LBS. Never see a Saris rack dumped.

Stability of the load is essential: loaded bike or bikes should not sway side to side nor up and down. Any rack will perform well in the driveway or around the block but how about at highway speeds, passing big trucks, or on rough roads and big expansion joints or in faster than planned turns or heavy braking? So good strong tight side straps are essential as well as solid bottom straps (yes, attached to steel not plastic. Hard to find these days). “Oooo it’s so complicated!” Then buy a big van. Also I sleeve all the metal hook things on the end of each strap with mtn bike inner tube sections to further protect the car’s paint.

Stability includes wide two point stances for the rack itself. I use an antiquated RhodeGear rack which has a decently wide stance but some (Saris?) are even better. Have you ever driven behind a car with a loaded rack and the rack and bikes are wagging back and forth in the wind? Ever repeatedly bend a steel paperclip until it breaks? I either get out of the way or pass those ASAP.

Personal thing here, but I always lash down both wheels too. Further stabilizes the bike and keeps the hanging bike from wagging out and back against the bumper and keeps the wheels from pinwheeling in the wind and the tires from grinding off the car’s paint.

yeah I do keep an eye on that front tire. It’s ok tho I’ve checked it in various terrain from the side no pic handy but agree it’s not good off road. flat beach is ok but other beaches w berm climbs & rocky dirt roads w craters & boulders not so much

as for the Allen racks the only one I had to throw out is when I got rear ended. those others look good. enjoy

+1 for side stability straps. Added them to my hitch racks. & the Allen trunk rack that didn’t come w them

note that in general these type of hang the bike by the top tube racks are not recommended for carbon frames for transport (by both bike and rack manufacturers)

Saris bones is the way to go for me. Arms are width adjustable and I just picked one up off craigslist for 50 bucks!!!!
I drive a Solara 2005 convertible and a 2017 Rav4. It fits both. But even more important is that it fits my gravel bike. The GT Grade has limited space between headtube and floating seatstays that most trunk racks cannot accommodate. With the adjustable ares and narrow width anyway...it fits very nicely!
They are expensive new but the design is flawless. The newer Saris Bones EX racks from are not much different in design and the only benefit is they fit about 20% more vehicles.
Used or new, they will last

another Saris Bones user here. Very adaptable to different shaped cars and minivans. Very sturdy. No damage to vehicles. I've had mine for ten plus years and carried three bikes on it.

I went to pick it up a few days ago, but unfortunately not all the parts were there. Apparently, since there are several different front fork designs--quick release, thru axle, etc.) they don't come in the box and they have to be ordered separately.

We don't need it until maybe August, so no big deal.
