1994 Univega Alpina 5.1 . Rescued from Fred G. Sanford's truck along with an aluminum 2001 HardRock (sold that ugly modern thing); he beat me to the "Attention Scrapers" CL ad location just a minute before I did, but he let us just have the bikes.

As found / brought home.

As it sits today (I really should ride it more).

Hnnm this bike has univega's "max mudroom" high BB; maybe I should re-equip it for the trails and relegate the new-to-me 'Cuda and its low BB to a city commuter .

Perhaps a bit unfair but I have always considered this style of road bicycle to be ugly. Funny thing is I just might end up buying it and a few others to boot...

One brand of bike that I always found ugly because of the paintjob was the Lemond, with its yellow blue and black colors on the frames. Just does not look like a good combination to me.....

Thank you,
that is the best laugh I have had in a while.
I'm not sure if I could ride one meter on that machine.

Well, not really sure but I am sure that the frame's condition begins with an F...

Ugliness lies in the eye of the beholder. The ghetto tire repair lasted a day. Wish it were permanent as I rather liked it. Especially fun to prop the kickstand and park next to Mister Gurly's shining Range Rover.

They actually aren't a bad concept, as evidenced by a number of auxilliary in-line brake levers on the market. It's a handy place to have brake levers, with one big caveat. Those suicide levers worked well if you were riding casually on the top and just need to slow yourself down a little, or come to a nice gentle stop. But when that becomes your muscle-memory braking method and you have a panic stop, they're not going to work very well and if you pull them hard enough they might even fail altogether. This happens to beginners who aren't given appropriate guidance. Nothing really wrong with them in concept, and of course some of them are better than others.
