It's a "Catch of the Day" although it's got a bit of a "Saved from the Dump" look to it. Was listed very local to me, couldn't resist? I believe it is an '87? Full XT group

They were for a long time, the fugly unibrow forks helped usher in the cookie cutter crap scourge that followed and plagues us more and more by the day.

They are probably cheaper, better, stronger, blah, blah, blah but we got along without them for a long time.

Nice vintage mtb, some minor touch ups on the fork , top tube and seat stays and it should be fine. I would however change the rims and tires.

My best deal recently, maybe ever is this tool lot I won at an auction this week. These were in a box with some old Bell cable kits, tubes and misc. I would have paid the $6 for just that stuff, but there must not have been anyone watching that knew what these are.

Schwinn Crosscut

I found this 1990 Schwinn Crosscut for $39 in a charity thrift shop. It appears to have most of the original bits except for the rear wheel and the seat. That the rear wheel has been replaced is something I wish I knew the story on. Seems like front wheels are easier to steal or taco. But anyway, the derailleurs seem in good shape and I’m cautiously optimistic about the paint. There aren’t a lot of nicks so I’m hoping to be able to rub it out, touch it up, and clear coat it. My thinking here in early days is to put drops and brifters on it with an 8-speed cassette and some 38mm-ish all weather tires. But I have a while to think about it because I’m up to my neck in outdoor summer projects for now . . .

Here's my latest catch! A Concorde Gavina from around 1988. I payed 73 usd for it. Columbus SL frame with number plate holder. Most of the parts are Campagnolo chorus except for the brake levers and hubs which the previous owner removed.

Picked up this Trek 950 mountain bike yesterday for $10 ($6.00 US) Missing a front wheel and the rear XT derailleur is slogged out but the frame is sound and a good larger size.
I'll swap parts to it from another mountain bike I have that's a heavy plain gauge frame and see how it rides. Lugs! Made in USA! 1993 from what I can see. 30 years young.

I still routinely kick myself for selling my c.1990 Trek 950 in this size. I suspect you will love this one!

Nifty! I probably spent more on the hardware to make my ghetto HS tools.

Free is a very good price

Picked this up this morning, a bone stock 1989 Bridgestone MB-1 in great condition. A coworkers father wanted to get his old mountain bike out of the garage. When I saw the pic of it I offered to pay, but he is just happy that it goes to “a bike guy”. It’s way too small for me, so I will try to find a family member or friend who can use it and will respect it for the gem it is. I told her father that if I just can’t find a home for it, I will donate it to our local co-op so they can sell it to support their work. I would trade for similar in my xl size.

That's for setting crown races. The cup removal tool was inspired by one of Dave Moulton's blog posts.

Now I see that. I have a few of my own that I replaced when they didn’t work well...

Well done!

LOL, I've been using a set up like that for years. And it is ironic that I have no projects that I need this for right now.

Here is a bike I purchased at the favorite nonprofit for, well of all things, the cables and handle bars/stem for like $3. The frame was eventually donated to the 2nd favored. It sat for a couple of years and has found an owner and as you see rebuilt to townie.
