Hello from Northern California
Hello, Recently joined to see if I could find some info. Now it's time to join in and contribute. I posted first to the 50+ thread(did you ride today?)
After retiring I was walking 2-3 miles daily but decided I need to strengthen my legs more than walking was doing. I worked construction for over 30 years so I know my legs were weakening.
Decided to start riding my ol' crusier on the same circuit I had been walking and went from there. The cruiser is a single speed with coaster brake. Decided I needed an upgrade but was not sure where to start so I ordered a inexpensive Hybrid 7 speed. Now I'm learning what I like and don't like. Also what I might want in a future bike.
I'm 69. Worked out in the gym off and on since my early 30's. Mostly I'm using my free weights and a bench at the house since retiring 9 years ago. Yup I got an early start thanks to my union pension
Looking forward to my new adventure in riding

Thank you Barry2 I'm still riding in town(Tracy) and looking for paved bike trails nearby. I see the American River Parkway is very nice. To bad it's so far from me. Might have to make the trip though. Looks to be outstanding. I need to rig up a rack for the back of my Silverado.
Rode 13.59 miles yesterday. With todays wind I only did 9.66.

I can vouch for American River Parkway, it's a nice place to ride. Although there are some warnings/comments.
