Guerciotti ID

Hi all, I picked up this Guerciotti locally and would like to ID it before I build it up. My guess is its SLX? I will go the the shop to strip it, weigh it and measure the seat post diameter. I'll also take better pics soon!

This forum post https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...ure-heavy.html helped, but my frame looks different from both shown there, possibly an earlier version of either.

Any help?

Features
-Italian 70mm bottom shell
-Web around BB and seat stays
-Blank rear drop outs
-Flat seat stay bridge, with Guerciotti stars
-Seat stays near cluster are not pantographed
-Simple lugs, no star cut outs
-Varnished by Dossena Carlo sticker
-Chrome finish underneath whole frame
-Internal cable routing, with diamond
-129mm rear dropout size... could be 130 or stretched
-looks like a missing front derailleur hanger/
-No nice Guerciotti fork
-No dents either, tho came with a broken carbon fork blades

General view. Maybe 'Sierra Cycles' is a clue?

Simple lugs.

Web around bb and seat stays. Sticker: Varnished by Dossena Carlo.

Look inside the seat tube. If there's rifling it's SLX

Could be SLX, TSX or SL. They were using all of them in the first part of the 90's, I think.

Is it just dirty in that area, or has a derailleur hanger tab been removed from the frame?

Guerciotti also used PRX tubing in the late 90's. It also has rifling. The purple Guerciotti in the link you posted is definitely PRX. I have the same frame (actually rode it today) See these forum links: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...questions.html

I check with a flashlight and my finger from top and once I removed the bottom bracket, I did not see or feel any rifling, so for now that excludes SLX.

I think it's probably SL than. I weighted it and the frame only is about 2100 grams, which is almost the same as another SL frame I had in the same size.

Some more images:

bottom bracket, no star cutout , web. You can see the chrome underneath the whole frame

the seat stay bridge, with stars, it is a "flat"style, rather than a raised "v" style seen in others.

no front derailleur hanger, it looks like its snapped off? there is what looks like soldering residue. No dents or damage near this area.

the only serial number I can find stamped to both rear dropouts: TI18 or T118

@gearbasher, your catalogue pics are wonderful, do you have others? In this page, under "not pictured" there is details for a Columbus Cromor/Thron with "racing red" color, yellow decals, and chrome chainstays--this sounds like my frame!

However, in an other page of the same catalogue, they list out the weights for Cromor/Thron tubes at 2305 grams, but my frame weighs 2100grams, a sizable difference.

reading the section "not pictured" under Cromor/Thron tubes describes a racing red frame with yellow decals

but Cromor/Thron weighs more 200grams more than my 58cm frame
