Removing the Lever/Cam head off a QR skewer

is there any way to remove the lever/cam head from a QR skewer?

going through my bin of QR skewers I find I have some nice ones - Dura Ace, Mavic, Spidel, Suzue, Maillard, Sachs - that are missing their either front or rear mates but which could be made into sets if I could swap the head off a short into a long shaft for example.

they must have been assembled somehow.

I would not mix parts from differing skewers that are of different brands or designs/series (excluding the adjusting nut at the far end of the skewer. If the threading is the same this swap should be fine). The subtle differences of cam shape, cam lobe stud length and the ability for the nut or clip to hold the assembly together need to be suspect and respected. I've done what is proposed but only with the same versions but with only front and rear skewer lengths being the change. Andy

Removing the lever is easy. However, switching them can be problematic. The dimensions of the working areas --- cam & bearing --- are critical and not standardized. Odds favor, switching within the same brand, but not across various brands.
