Another less direct reason to choose FG might be if thinning a stable of bikes to just those that add variety and don't duplicate. I keep trying to do that (hah hah!) with little success but still...

I have a road bike that has a second wheelset for gravel, so I have those two genres covered. This also works as my road touring bike.

I have a fatbike for snow that also doubles as a mountain bike, even more so when I get a second wheelset and suspension fork for it. When I do that I can get rid of my other hardtail mtb as it will become redundant. This bike also works as my offroad bikepacking rig. So I have those three genres covered by it.

I also have a FG.

Those three platforms cover all the bases I really "need" for my full bicycling experience. I have other bikes like a fully loaded tour bike and both SS road and mountain bikes, but they more or less duplicate what I can do with the first three platforms. I could see someone else adding a nice road bike to that list if they were interested in racing or group roadie type riding. I'm not and my road bike is more endurance oriented. Someone might also add a full suspension mtb but I get by ok with a hardtail.

I could add a SS to the list but in some ways that replicates the geared bike (if I leave it in one gear) experience by allowing coasting etc... Not exactly but I'm only really choosing to use one instead of many gears and adding another bike because of it.

The FG offers a very different ride that I can not approximate with any of the above bikes so, if I want that experience (which I do) I need to add that bike.
