Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We’re expecting something similar here outside Beantown. I went and got booze today and moved a couple bags of firewood in so we’ll be locked and loaded. Hopefully.

Guess there will be more Zwifting. Who am I kidding though? I’m not biking outside until May at the earliest…

Smart people know to stay away from places like that in the winter.

I just talked to my son. He got a call from his new employer (starts mid-January) today to tell him that they are bumping his starting pay by more than 10%.

WTF???

That has never happened to me.

I think it’s safe to say that I did my last outdoor ride for the year, yesterday.

Phooey.

I am askeered that this applies to me too, but I am crossing my fingers that maybe I can get one or two more in later next week. Certainly there will be none this weekend.

I'm due for a Total Wine run. I think I'll wait 'til 9am tomorrow, try to miss the crowd.

I got out for $60! That's the least I've ever spent there.

I ran to the Total Wine a few years ago with my son right before Christmas. Bought some stuff for personal use as well as some client appreciation gifts. Total bill was close to $1k. As we walked to the car, he said, "So that's what a liquor store run looks like when you are not a college student." That gave me a chuckle.

We started at 30° this morning and it’s ° and falling. Been snowing all day and supposed to have 40-50 mph wins tomorrow. Oh, well, it is winter.

hahaha.

I might go over 60, but not by much. Just getting a Tiagra level brandy for eggnog, and a 12-pack of beer. Anchor Christmas beer if they have it, good ol' Anchor Steam if they don't.

I bribed myself with the offer of taking today off, if I completed my self evaluation at work yesterday. It worked! So I took today off and celebrated the start of Winter, and Winter Break, with a nice 34 mile ride. At first I feared I overdressed, but then the sun went behind the clouds and steadfastly refused to come back out, so it turned out to have been the right choice. The Litespeed was awesome as always - have I mentioned that I ******g LOVE this bike?

Yesterday I started my ride on the travel bike--I want it really dialed in this time. I travel in June. It's a 58cm, and the rest are 60 and 61. It has 38cm bars and the rest have 42. It's chromoly and rides nicer than expected. But its brakes are worthless, so I turned back for the Paramount. Barring rain, I'll go out again tomorrow.
