Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Recent ride up the mountain until I couldn't go any further, because of snow.

Rider's choice.
25 miles from downtown Cincinnati. There's a lot of great routes around there, scenic with extremely low traffic and decent paving.

Too much rain for a ride but a good day for a walk up this dead end road. 880 ft elevation in 3 miles. Didn’t see a single vehicle.

Back to biking in the woods at Caravelle Ranch WMA this past weekend.
Three times the road was blocked by fallen trees. In two cases the trees were partially on fire. A prescribed burn had been going on recently. That's one way to make sure its an empty road.

When the roads were clear it was a nice day for a ride.

Tell me about it, I've just managed to get back from today's gravel ride before the rain started. The wind was blowin' pretty hard the last hour of my ride though.

A dead end road out in ranch country. It has no official name or at least none I’ve seen on any map. I call it steep$hit road.

There are a few roads in the desert that are like this…..you just need to know where they are and then enjoy riding them. This one is out of Borrego Springs and goes to the Salton Sea.

Truth! This is another part of the Caravelle Ranch WMA. Usually this is the sweet spot of the year to ride back here. The hunters are gone and the summer rains haven't flooded it. However, it has been a wet winter and it was a bit moist.

It felt like riding on a wet golf course at times.

Also went on a short trail next to the ill-fated cross FL canal. Dryer, but lots of roots hidden by fallen leaves.
