Has VanAert played the cyclocross well - to win the Giro?

and thusly, is Van Aert a big favorite for the Giro?

Mathew VdP was chalking up every big cyclocross race and only lost a recent race to Wout on the penultimate lap. Wout has been using the cyclocross season to build for The Classics, where Jumbo did not excel last year, and the Giro.

Maybe Mathew will hold form thru the Classics and have multiple wins, like last year? VanAert is reportedly skipping the cyclocross WC in the Czech Republic.

I'm pulling for Wout Van Aert and Jumbo in the Classics.

I guess WvA will be Jumbo's protected GC rider for the Giro, but I am hoping that Jorgenson breaks through.

"Win the Giro?" Maybe the maglia ciclamino but, despite the less lofty parcours this year and a few mountain GT wins on his palmares, absent dropping 8 or 10 kg from a major lifestyle choice re-tooling a la Wiggo, I don't see WVA hanging with Pogacar.

Visma is certainly going to challenge for some stages with van Aert, Kooij, and maybe Uijdtebroeks (probably spelled that wrong).

BTW, MinnMan , PCS shows 7 on the Visma roster for the Giro right now. Jorgenson isn't one of them.

It seems the article I read was old and speculative.

I like Wout, a lot, but he isn't a Giro GC winner. Too many others are going to be there that are. As far as MvP's performance later in the season, he did ok at the world road championship last year

we'll see who(m) actually shows up at the giro to contest the gc. between the bleepy weather, injuries/dnf's/dq's/dns's and the potential shortening of stages because of said weather, no serious gc contender (nor his team) will let wva just go up the road on a whim.
if they do, it's at their own peril.

Geraint Thomas at the Giro for Ineos.
And then (god willing) at the TdF.

Geraint Thomas to race both Giro d'Italia and Tour de France in 2024 - BBC Sport

G will not make it onto my Velogames team.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't know that or care. But, if he did, he would be thankful.
