(photos) Visting an Amazing private french bike collection

I rode across to the dauphine-libere today to watch the time trial

When I went to take a photo with ventoux in the background a spectator noticed my vintage bike and we had a chat. After the race had passed I asked if I could ride back to the local town with them since I was rather lost.

when in town he invited me and two of his friends in for a drink,

he spoke about the bikes as we looked around, I think this one was riddern by bobet. It has two cables to opperate the rd

the bike on the left apparantly was the first bike to win the tour de france,

another room, full of amazing bikes, like that gios super record

I took a over a hundred photos, I'l post some more once I have picked out some more good photos.
I think I have seen these bikes on a french blog before, but can't remember the name of the blog.

It is just his garage on the side of his house, with the freezer in there just like any other garage. I think he sometimes takes his bikes to show and tell but its not an official museum

guessing by the numbers, he takes these to put on tempary display

pug front

pug back

unfortunatly not signed, but worn.

I give this gentleman's collection a standing ovation.

Arguably the greatest compilation of classic TdF memorabilia I've seen, if not the greatest in the world.

There was so much to see in every corner, such as behind this table!

he has been collecting along time, bernard thevenet at his house

my favourite section, all top of the line

all the way along

the place was packed, so I geuss he has stopped collecting? Found this hidden behind a ladder

he said he enjoyed repairing woodern rims

thank you! It was incredible to get to look around

Thats amazing. Every one of those bikes looks like its ready to ride. Pump up the tires and be on your way. And look at the vintage water bottles, the saddles all amazingly preserved.

The number of Jerseys is astounding. The whole thing is astounding.

It was also very well organised, in an order of age.

The strange thing was, there was no piles of junk or spare part piles. if you visit my bike cave there are piles of wheels and half built bikes all over.

This cannot be real. It must be some really good photoshopping trick. I mean HOW? Did he tell you how he got all this stuff? If he ever publishes a book I want a copy. I'll go back to school to shape up my french for this. He must have a ton of stories with all these memorabilia.

What a fantastic collection. Makes mine seem paltry. It's hard to imagine what it must be like to be invited to see it. We are genuinely privileged that you shared your photos with us. Thanks for posting!,

As for 'how', he was a good cyclist and there are many photos of him from the 80's and think he said he had been collecting for 40 years.
I'l have to go back to back to talk to him about it all another day. It was a bit overwhelming for me to speak much french!

not sure what I have and have not posted, so here is a link to my photos, https://picasaweb.google.co.uk/colehill/DaphineLibreDay# (the first 25 photos are out of focus)

If you spot anything intresting repost the picture and then discuss
