Busted Boardwalk
Well my Boardwalk has died. Loaned it to a friend's daughter and a carload of boys thought it was a good idea to see how close they could come without actually hitting her. Unfortunately the fork folded and the frame buckled when hit the curb. Fortunately she is ok. Anyone have a source for a fork and frame that I can swap my components too?

Contact Thor @ thorusa.com,... He's the USA Dahon distributor, and I'm sure he can help you out.

LET'S ROLL
What would be the price difference between getting a new frame + fork(including shipping).
Then your time swapping all other parts. Versus just getting another used Boardwalk?
Also if this was cause of a car; there might be recourse with the auto's insurance company or
civil court.

I had completely forgotten about this,... The driver of the car is responsible for damages. They owe the OP a new bike.

No recourse from the auto side. The oxygen thieves buzzed and ran, leaving my friend's daughter laying in the gutter. 😡 At the end of the day it is usually cheaper to buy a used replacement, especially with shipping to AK, but I enjoy building up bikes. So like any good hobby I am not worried about resale as I usually ride my money out of them.

I was already in contact with Thor as I had just ordered up a new latch and magnet for it. He wasn't holding out much hope for a replacement frame from his end. Looked at the Fnhon post and that is a possibility, but where and how would I source either of those frames in the States?

I would check Craigslist, there is a nice Novara Flyby in Wasilla.

What year is your Boardwalk? Some parts don’t transfer well if they are a few years old. My 2002 model is considered ancient! Is your stem a quill attachment to the fork?

Hello
you might put a BMX fork on it.
I bought a used Dahon CIAO that had a BMX fork put on it. I have since taken it to Guatemala and given it away.
As I recall it was basically a threadless headset and held on my the two bolt clamping of the folding handlebar stem.
Before shipping out I added a device call a head lok to add more assurance like a star fangled nut but it extends all the way thru to the bottom of the fork tube.
If you saw one you could probably make your own.
These are the only pictures I have left of the bike and none of them show how it was done, you may have to innovate.
You might try to adapt a BMX fork from a donor bike.

Hello
I think a donor boardwalk would be preferred, but I have seen BMX bikes set out with the trash. Like most bikes its usually the back wheel that gives out first. You might pick up a fork and front wheel for nothing.

Thorusa has a Jetstream suspension fork available that may work.

Hello
Assuming one could find a donor BMX with front wheel, and the fork tube was too long or not threaded low enough Take it to a bike shop to have them extend the threading , cut off excess. It would be cheaper than the postage for a new fork. Thats' what I would do with a busted boardwalk.

According to Sheldon Brown Cribsheet: some BMX has a 21.15 mm steer I.D. So stay away from those.
My Boardwalk probably uses 1-1/8" threaded headset and 25.4mm steerer I.D. Which is the same size as threadless steerer , I believe.
One final point is the fork dropout spacing. Doesn't the BMX use 100mm spacing? And Dahon use 74 or something. If so, you would need to make sure to get the BMX wheel also.
And it might interfere with the folding!

And yes, the spacing is 100mm. If the slimmest fold is required it's unacceptable. Otherwise, it'll work just fine,...a new bmx wheel or so later. I doubt the op will be upset getting a wider old for the front wheel, since they already have those knobbies on there.
All and all, a bmx fork will work.

And a good bike shop will help install a bmx fork,... The bike shop by my house does threaded to threadless conversions on occasion.

Sorry gang, wasn't meaning to ignore my own post. Got busy with other projects and back burnered this one. The fork wasn't my biggest worry as I would have probably gotten a replacement from Thor. That Jetstream one was calling to me just because it looks neat. The show stopper is the tweeked frame. At this point I will probably be scrapping it out and start saving up for a new folder as bare frames seem to be unobtainium here in the US.
