I put this song on last night when we were just chillin' before bed:

For the record, my girl listens primarily to indie/alt type rock and electronica.

gf: "Baby, why do you listen to so much black people music?"

me:"It's easy baby. Black people just make better music then white people do."

I was too pooped to go to that concert last week after a late weds night and the need to get to work by 7:30 on friday. And the fact that I'm now broke and need to start not spending that much money after I got the tattoo.

Also, apparently I like country...

Warning for this one: Bad Youtube compression size. Volume needs to be turned up. The piano solo is crackin' and the bass player is throwin' down the whole time.
Also Weather Report is my favorite "son of Miles" post B!tches Brew off-shoot, for the record.

and for some new-school:
this one is fun and simple. also check out Medeski Martin and Wood.

at times I listen to more jazz fusion than anything else.

OK time to rep my bf namesake:

My favorite version of this classic:

Like many Monk songs, my favorite part is his comping during someone else's solo.

Here's a good ballad:

You can really hear some of his pre bob era influences in this track, esp. stide piano. When he brings the head back for another solo at 1:20 it almost sounds like ragtime.

One of my favorite albums is:

NPR geeks may recognize the snippet of "It Don't Mean A Thing" on Market Place on days when the markets are mixed.

Pulled up Gustavo Gallindo on spotify.com.

He got a write up in the Bee this morning and sounds like an interesting guy.

indeed.

I've never heard that recording. Thanks.

Someone mentioned 2001: A Space Odyssey to me the other day and this popped into my mind:

I went for a pleasant z1 spin with my gf through some twisty, rolling back roads and this was in my head the whole time.
