Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I worked on this downhill bike at work yesterday that was so FUBAR'd, I basically had to tell the customer that the tune up involved cleaning the bike and oiling the chain and almost everything else needs to be replaced.

He said yeah, that makes sense, and was happy with his purchase.

DHers are weird

What is the point of a "minor"? In my case I needed a lot of physics and math to go with my chemistry, but I don't think either added up to a 20 credit minor. I certainly wouldn't have extended my undergraduate stay in school to be able to say I minored in one or the other. That is especially true since I was going on to graduate school for very intensive and specific education. Then later on-the-job learning, job-sponsored offsite training, and self education over the course of my career were all more valuable to me than any additional undergraduate college courses would have been. I'm just wondering what your purpose is in stretching out the college period.

A second minor in that you already have a first minor? And now have a major and two minors? Or you just have a major and a minor?

What is your major?

My college boyfriend majored in Latin American studies. He's a carpenter now.

The carpenter part might have more to do with drinking and other partying too much, and also waiting for a relative to die so that he could inherit a tidy sum. Still waiting last I heard, and he is now 56 years old. (disclaimer: significantly older than me.)

Political Science, minoring in criminology and now Latin American studies. Picked up LA studies because I've taken a number of courses on the region for my major and because I like the subject, so it only adds a couple classes.

Haha, I was the same way. I had enough credits in various things that my University was threatening to just graduate me, even though I only wound up an undergrad for 4.5 years. I went to summer school 3 years and usually carried 20-22 hours per semester. I had a free ride as far as tuition went, so why not make the most of it?

In the end, I graduated with just one major- English literature- because I had already been accepted to vet school and if I graduated in Dec, I'd have six months to work and save some money. I was two classes away from also having a bachelors in chemistry, just needed polymer chem and another math class. It was tempting, I really liked chemistry (but not math). But in the end, putting aside some money won out and the chemistry degree would have never really added anything to my credentials.
