1986 Vitus/Suntour Superbe Pro Custom Build
Any thoughts on price? I built this in 1986 with the best components I could afford. Just bought a Specialized Roubaix SL4 Expert/Ultegra so my beloved Vitus is on the block.
Vitus 979 aluminum frame & fork
Suntour Superbe Pro, front & rear deraillers, 7 cog freewheel
Ofmega Super Competizione crankset 52/42
Suntour Superbe Pro butterfly shifters
Suntour Superbe Pro brakes & levers
Suntour Superbe Pro seatpost, pinch bolt frame
Capagnolo Omega rims
Phil Wood sealed bearing hubs
Cheers.
Bob.

Keep it if it has memories and has served you well. That's how I ended up with a ridiculous number of old bikes, . Pics help since condition matters. Where you live matters since bikes command better prices in "hot" markets (big cities mainly). If clean and in good shape, I'd hazard a guess of around $400 and maybe a bit less.

Okay, okay. I'll take pictures tonight. It does have sentimental value but I know I won't ride it now that I have the Roubaix. And...storage space is short. I'm located in Salem NH, North of Boston MA. The bike is in excellent condition. I've maintained it regularly and ridden it only a couple of hundred miles per year. Religiously followed the Vitus cleaning instructions that came with the frame. Wipe down with olive oil and buff to a shine. Really preserved the anodized finish.

New tape will help a lot. You're close enough to Boston that someone who really wants the bike might consider making the drive up. You can take a look at the CL in the Boston area to get an idea of comparables. I used to live in Boston. Boston is a hot market but like a lot of CLs, there is a lot of dead inventory there. The bike is clean and has what I think are desirable parts but the bike isn't campy equipped and a high end steel frame and that's what makes a vintage bike worth a higher price. So I'm sticking to $400.

I am pretty sure its worth more parted out but maybe as high as $500 but if you want it to sell this month $400 is probably closer.

I think 400 is probably about right - the parts will part out for around 400-500, so it's a definite option in this case.

Get some new black bar tape and clean up that chain and freewheel. Much easier time of selling it that way for minimal investment.

I think $400 is perhaps a little low for the complete bike, considering the Phil hubs, Campy rims & Superbe Pro, but you'd probably get more parting it out.
In my mind, roughly:
$200 -- frame
$200 -- components
$200 -- wheels
....and you can quibble those rates up and down, just a starting point.
