50's Schwinn Racer

I was lucky enough to get this from a friend the other day. I'm not really sure what to do with it, but it seems like it'd be worth being careful while cleaning it up. I like the Magical Top Hat logo on the seat tube. Thought you all might like to see pics.

The top hat thing is Eddie Rickenbacker's squadron insignia. He was a WW1 ace. The "Hat in the Ring" squadron.

If anyone has a stem that style and size they'd be willing to part with, PM me for possible trade.

Photos were shot during the 'magic hour' last night. I might actually fix this bike up, and then give it back to him as a gift. He has no idea just how nice this bike can look and ride again while keeping the patina of the original paint. The bike was his father-in-laws childhood ride, seems like they should keep it in the family.

I also like the little wings on the side of the Schwinn head badge.

Lovely bicycle - but I'm a sucker for old middleweights.

I like it. I'd say clean it as well as you can, then give it back, if he's gonna ride it. If not, keep it and ride it.

Zorro, I have one or two of them...They're just Wald stamped steel stems... Here's one from Amazon for $5
