Hello from Vancouver Island
Hello everyone:
My name is James and I'm from Victoria, BC. Although I have been biking on and off for a good chunk of my life, I started cycling full time in Spring 2016 after selling my vehicle (not by choice). Since then, I have progressed into a pretty serious rider. My current bike is a Marin San Rafael DS1 that I bought from Wayne & Pam's Performance Bicycles in Victoria in June 2020. I'm now a firm believer in getting a bike properly fitted at a local bike shop. Compared to my last bike, I love the plush feel of the 700x40 tires. I also find all around maintenance is much easier with mechanical disc brakes. The terrain I ride on is mainly paved roads and trails. I use my bike for commuting and long weekend marathons.
Once every summer, I do a marathon where I circumnavigate the Greater Vancouver Area (roughly 175km). I usually do a few 75km runs to prepare for this. The rest of the year, I just commute and do smaller trips around Victoria.
In short: Even though I am still a car guy, my appreciation for bikes has grown. I also consider myself fortunate to live in an area with great bike paths.
Cheers!

I hope the ferry service from Port Angeles to Victoria resumes this Summer. A few years since I rode Canadian roads.
