Capital Crescent Trail

Has anyone (folks who also Nordic ski?) seen what the Capital Crescent Trail outside DC looks like since yesterday's blizzard? I'm wondering how long it'll be before it's passable on a bike again...

I walked by the Bethesda end at about 1pm. I saw a couple, plus a separate 3rd person cross country skiing on it. Looked like packed snow at best, not plowed.

If you're waiting for clear pavement it'll be a while. The DC area trails aren't cleared of snow, thought being that the winter sports fans get their days. Given the forecast temps looks like it could be well after xmas.

The forecast for Christmas Eve is frezzing rain and ice followed by rain Christmas Day. That will eliminate some of the snow but we'll need a couple days of warm weather and sunshine to make the trails clear. Also skiers will pack the snow down, which makes it harder to melt.

I would assume the condition of the CC is similar to the MVT now. The MVT is very clear and has been for at least a week and a half (I've ridden it daily). You hit a few very small patches of ice on a couple of the wooden bridges, but nothing to worry about.

The Washcycle blog had a note and a link today to this page. Only as reliable and accurate as whatever gets sent in, but might be worth bookmarking to check back on.

CCT recently was largely clear, with extended patches 50-100 ft where there was solid ice with a thin track or two (6-8 inches) of clear space, if you're an ace straight-line rider! Annoying enought not to ride the trail IMHO
