I did a quick check and on the Eroica Website is "Eroica California" scheduled for Sept 22, 2024.
There is no 'button' yet to register for it, but it appears that it will happen.
On the other hand, Eroica Cuba seems to have disappeared, and there won't be an Eroica Hispania this year (Haro, Spain)

There is the classic rendezvous west in October in Davis Ca, later in the month, I do not recall the exact date.

And Cino is, I believe, the weekend before Eroica CA. Could be one hell of a road trip for a properly motivated C&Ver.

What would be the point of NOVA only? Isn't it just a bike ride then? I mean, like it's a vintage bike event but there's a day when you don't have to ride a vintage bike and also there is no day for the vintage bikes?

I've booked an AirBnB in Cambria for the weekend, so I'll probably stick to the "No Complaining" thread.

Here's my experience. My first, and only, Eroica ride was in 2022. It was not easy, but I figure half the challenges were self-inflicted.
I usually ride a metric century or two each year, always with friends alongside. Not arranging that was probably my main mistake in 2022.

I rode the very sociable ride the day before up to the Hearst Ranch Winery, organized by gugie, et al (?) That was Very Fun, probably the best thing about the weekend.
The excellent and entertaining dinner put on by L'Eroica organizers was much nicer than generally found at my other rides.
And the parts display/sales, hang-out and bike show area with music was great.

On the actual ride, I got overly ambitious around the 40-mile mark, and decided to aim for the full century route. That was my second mistake. Soon after, the number of nearby riders thinned out considerably, and the turn directions were harder to find.
I missed the lunch stop somehow, but luckily survived with a supply of snacks in my pockets and stop for water at a market. I don't generally want a lot to eat on such rides, but sure appreciate the direction arrows and fully supplied water stations.
The 15%+ climbs on dirt roads toward the end were a huge challenge with the 35/28 low gearing I had. If I had stuck to the metric route I probably would have been fine.
Lessons learned, I'm ready to book 2024. Below is the bike I rode a couple years ago. A second water bottle will be a good plan this year. With different bike, which one I don't know - it's still 7 months away.

Nothing yet ......crickets! I suppose no early registration on this one. We have a date and that is promising but I am not reserving anything at this point .

I'd bet that the organizers are "pretty sure" it's going to happen, but need to finish negotiations, get permits, etc. before they open registration.

One thing they're not is transparent.

Note the Eroica Japan reg opens Feb 15th, for a ride in MAY!!

To me, that's cutting it close.

Agreed, but it tells me that the fact that registration for Eroica CA hasn't opened yet is not a reason for concern, at least not until June. Thee may be other reasons for concern, but that isn't one of 'em.

or, the obverse of that, in 2008 Chuck cancelled VeloRendezvous as no one pre registered he stated. An extreme thing, but catering was always a gamble.

Heck, I give more notice for the credit card tours I organize, and almost all of those people I already know. Most people need time to schedule their lives. Eroica California is about a 3-4 hour drive for many, it's on a weekend, and at least they've already set a date.

I imagine the Cuba turnout would have been bigger had people been given more advance notice.

I checked my email in-box. The CUBA announcement went out November 11th for a February 11th date. Same timeframe with Japan. Three months should be enough.

I probably think that many us Americans were reluctant to attend after reading so much hate for the organization based on their California events.

Well, I assume you're not married, no kids in the house, no regular job. People that tick those boxes need to plan pretty far in advance.

You're probably right on the second point, but many people are reluctant to go to a third world country for a bike ride. I'm not knocking anyone for an adventure like this, but many of us have dance cards filled out far in advance. Vintage bike rides typicaly means vintage riders, those with wives, kid and grandkids. The Touroica ride I organized last April had a dozen people in it. Three months would have cut that number down sharply.

To get away for a day or two, in not generally a problem for me. But when travel is involved and a bigger financial/time commitment, there is a much lower probability of success. Between 2 kids to/from college, my high school daughter, wife, work, work travel, and family vacations, I have not participated is a number of the "destination" rides I wanted to. I've targeted Cino last year, and Eroica CA twice and I'm batting 0%. Cino is already off the table for this year but hopefully Eroica, CA will be in the cards.

shop procedure was to tap the pin out inside to out, have a co-worker buck up the lever body with a sledge, stop just short of fully out, feed in the assembly and tap the original pin out with the new, then fit the retainer clip.
profit margin was king with that mod.
