Got a 2013 S5 with Stages last night. Won't have to swap any components, I think even the saddle will be good. But gonna by Flo wheels I think. It'll be good to have a power meter again.

lol.

I have good friend/ex co-worker that is real good with electronics and computers, he can do everything from wiring and soldering to robotics, automation and IT/network stuff. He just left to get his applied math PhD.

I'm our in-house expert on ICP-MS, a type a mass spectroscopy for metal quantification. Once every couple months I break it down, replace all of the consumable components and clean the metal and glass parts. When I re-assemble it, it never ignites on the first few attempts - there is always a gas line that isn't fitted properly, or a component that is misaligned, or something.

One time when I went to fire it up after re-assembly, he dropped by to say hi, and it ignited on the first shot. I told him that never happens, to which he replied: "Machines have this general respect for me."

We have a tech that used to "maintain" our last ICP-MS. By maintain I mean, take it apart to clean something that wasn't even very dirty then break something trying to put it back together.

Pro tip: most of those maintenance items are just suggestions.

Happy birthday.

Happy birthday.
Ya, I'm finding this to be the case as well. We maintain it as part of our preventative maintenance protocols to comply with our Quality System - and I'm finding that it doesn't need to occur quite as often. We just recently switched from once/2months to quarterly. I've been advised by one of my Thermo contacts to "condition" the cones and SIS by running a solution containing average analyte, acid and IS concentrations from what we routinely run - basically the opposite of cleaning it . We run it for 30min with the detector voltages off. The surface/plating on the cones can have a focusing (or defocusing) effect on the ion beam, which changes count rates as the cones build up deposits after they've been cleaned.

At any rate, I have mixed feelings in regards to breaking it down. At first, I'm usually disgruntled as my productivity in other regards takes a big hit - it takes most of a day. Once I get started, it's nice to do something different and with a singular focus. These days I'm spread very thin supporting or advising different employees/teams, usually in regards to characterization data. I don't spend much time in the lab anymore.

Also, breaking something when putting it back together (or just doing it incorrectly) is a good way to develop troubleshooting methods, when combined with actual instrument response. These days, I can often pinpoint a sensitivity or signal stability issue to a specific software or hardware setting.

Machines have contempt for me, they stop failing when I'm around just to mess with me.

Very little Saab experience. Actually, none, except the ones GM marketed. What year and model? I know when the Corvettes had an issue like that there was a reprogram to fix it.

Hahaha - I plan on having a beer and a couple glasses of wine at dinner tonight. My parents are taking my GF and I out to dinner.

She's driving

I bought a guitar. I stopped playing when I started riding bikes lots. I'm not starting completely from scratch, but close enough.

My teenage son started playing guitar a couple years ago. 8 guitars, 3 amps, pedals, cables etc...it's almost as expensive a hobby as bikes!

My son's been playing since he's five. It's a significantly more expensive sport than cycling.

It's a theft system problem and any GM dealer should have the tools and information to figure it out. It's a Trailblazer body, yes? Is the ignition switch in the center console?
