Depends on how fast you can pedal... seriously.

Other bikes might very likely let you be faster, depending on what type of riding conditions you ride in.

Yeah, I'm like that cartoon deer with a large target painted on. I'll just leave it with the BF approved emoticon.

Hi Tobby Keller and welcome to Bike Forums! Thank you for this excellent question, we all appreciate it when someone new creates an account and wishes to learn more about the great world of bicycles!
I was stumped by this great inquiry and decided to ask my good friend Al for help as Al knows almost everything that has ever been!

Al said
BMX bikes are designed for maneuverability and acceleration, rather than top speed. They typically have a smaller frame, shorter wheelbase, and smaller wheels compared to road bikes, which means they can accelerate quickly and change direction with ease. However, their smaller size also means they may not be as fast as other types of bikes on straightaways or over long distances. That being said, some BMX bikes are designed for racing, and these bikes can be very fast. BMX racing bikes are typically lighter and have more efficient gearing, allowing riders to achieve high speeds over short distances. However, it's important to note that BMX racing is a specialized discipline that requires a lot of skill and training to excel in, and the speed of a BMX bike will ultimately depend on the skill and strength of the rider.
I hope Al's response helps and I really hope you continue to participate in the rich community that is Bike Forums!

Most 'out of the box' BMX solutions come with a 44T front and 13T rear sprocket set. Based on my own guess from riding and racing back as a youngster speed would be determined by cadence, of course, but probably about 10-13 MPH at an average cadence and probably topping out around 22-ish MPH with a very high (130) cadence.

This might be a fast bicycle.

But it's custom. And requires certain conditions to be fast. Just like BMX bikes are good choices when it comes to doing the things that really require the designs of the BMX bike. Road bikes are good choices for things where road bikes excel at and mountain bikes are great for all things mountain bikes do well at.

At least one BMX is fun to add to anyone's collection.

I use mine to visit other neighbors on the street, go to the community mailbox, I don't venture out more than I can see from my house.

Great for riding drunk back home from backyard bbq parties!

There's a YouTube with a bmx, mountain and track bike . They raced 25-50-75-100-150-200 meters. Bmx won the first 4 then the mtb at 150 and track bike at 200.

That's why one speed "fixies" are the real courier/commuter bikes in metropolis cities.

BMXs are geared to accelerate over very short (ramp) lengths.

Is it your opinion that the older you get, the less expensive and worse your bike should be?
If that isn't your opinion, what was your point in posting the comment above?
