No replaceable battery is an issue if you like long continuous videos.
On the other hand, the big on/off switch on the top of the camera makes it easy to capture a series of short video clips.
Video quality on the Contour cameras is decent, though there is no image stabilization.

my reasoning was that the camera will only last as long as the battery, which is big turn off.
I think there are some Chinese cameras that do a pretty good job, and are pretty user friendly. 1 button and record. simple.

Had it for about a year and a half. I wear it on the helmet occasionally. Battery life is ~3 hrs in 720p60 and closer to 4 hrs in 720p30. You can use an external USB battery pack if that's not enough (it can shoot and charge at the same time). Video quality is okay, somewhat blurry at default settings, but you can boost sharpness in camera options, almost enough to read license plates. Random screenshot (I think I overboosted brightness a bit here):
Keep in mind that if you want to shoot more than 3-4 hours at a time, you'll be running into storage capacity issues as well, since 4 hours of 720p30 footage take 16 GB of space and the camera can handle cards up to 32 GB in capacity.

I have heard good things from the contour. Never hear of the roam.
FYI, the garmin virb basic is 100$ on amazon currently. (replacable battery, 64gb memory capacity, 1080p)

I've been using my Contour ROAM2 ever since it came out (pre-ordered it). I like it a lot compared to the original Contour. Only con as pointed out is that it does not have a replaceable battery but it is not a factor for me since I don't ride more than 2 hours+.
I like that is waterproof, great form factor (not boxy) and have a color option. Mine is blue. If you are going to mount it on your handlebar, there is only 1 mount you have to get (and I have tried a lot of mounts). Rattle free video is guaranteed.

I have a Roam and use it often. Its one of the originals and I did the firmware hack to upgrade it to a version 2 about a year ago. The company went out of business but they're back in operation.
I bought it because it was inexpensive but if I had to do it over again I would just get a Gopro. One really nice thing about Contour is the tube factor - it mounts easily and is low profile.
Here's a ride video from earlier this year. I edit these for fun after some of our rides.

I've got the Mobius actioncam. As big as a tic-tac box and costs under $100 excluding accessories
