Where can I get a Shimano cleat fixing nut?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Where can I get a Shimano cleat fixing nut?

I called Shimano and they said they had them but don't sell to the public and I tried my local LBS but they weren't very helpful. Is there a place online where you can order Shimano parts by part number?

Part:
SPD-SL Cleat Fixing Nut
#: Y-4YN 01000

Is what you're looking for item #15 in this schematic?

Pay attention to the length of the bolt you need. Shimano offers 10mm and 13.5mm versions.

The standard ones are 8.5mm.

They come with every set of cleats.

I tried searching for an online source for that for you and had no luck. I'd print that PDF and take it to either another bike shop or go back to that one and stand on the manager's/owner's desk until they pay attention to you. Failing that contact Shimano again and tell them your problem finding that piece and see if they can suggest a source.

This is just an example of really poor customer service on Shimano's part as I see it. I can name at least three other companies in the cycling business I've dealt with that would immediately shipped out that piece at no charge. Those companies have won my firm loyalty for no great cost. Those companies are Giro, Blackburn and Topeak. Given a choice I'll buy one of their products over a competitor and recommend them to anyone seeking advice.

Guys. He's looking for a nut. Not a bolt.

Ask one of your group ride buddies for one. I'm sure people have spares lying around.

I lost one too and went to my LBS hoping to buy a replacement, ended up getting a free hook up from the parts/service guy. Do you have a store nearby? Give them a try first.
