Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Alrighty then. Here we go! I don't have any pictures of me on the roadie, but this should suffice.

This picture was taken by a friend in Nicaragua where I borrowed a bike to ride around town for a bit. That's a volcano in the background!

And here's a 'self portrait' if you will.

I'll try getting the obligatory spandex clad roadie picture soon!

OK, pic of me almost on the bike. That's 15 pounds lighter than I was a couple of months ago.

I love the color of your bike!

But ... is that a huge dent in the top tube?

1. Thanks

2.I should stop taking pictures of that side; it comes up every time. Yes it is a huge dent, its been there for a couple of years but does not affect integrity of the frame.

How does that not affect the frame integrity, you are just asking for that top tube to buckle

The tube is Easton Elite Al, and has a ding, not a crimp. The frame is as stiff as anything I have rode. If the local framebuilders say not to worry about it, I don't worry about it. I figure if its going to fail, it would have done it 6 or 7 thousand miles ago. Eventually, I'll find someone who can fix it just so I won't have to hear about how I have a deathwish when I ride it.

It looks like a bright camera flash was used causing him to appear brighter than the foreground giving him the no shadow affect also. You can also see the shadow of the wheels below leading me to believe the source of light was at his eye level. Outdoor flash is pretty useful and gives the subject in the portrait more character.

Bingo. Except for the great riding out here, I really miss everything about Chicago.

That dent is likely not problematic, as the forces on a bike frame will pull on the top tube, thus not causing the dent to get worse. Such a dent on the down tube would be a problem, as the force on the down tube pinches it together.

I got it on ebay and picked it up on the corner of Western and Chicago. Pretty sketchy, the guy claimed to be raising funds to tour europe. I don't know how he'll manage that selling custom Pace caps for $10.

I do love this cap, it has the Chicago flag on the side.
