Vintage Centurion frame has brake bosses. How do I attach?
I found a vintage centurion frame. It has brake bosses exactly where center-pull brakes would line up.
Perfect fit. However, the springs really don't line up, the bosses don't have a "hook" for the spring to remain taut.
What's the secret? Anybody have a good pic?
Robert

This frame came with centerpull plates and springs. The plates are necessary. If you use Weinmann or Dia Compe centerpull, brakes, you need to also get the spring that hooks the plate (different than the standard spring). I understand that Mafac centerpull brakes use a spring that's already compatible with the plates.
From mine:
I had to get the plates and springs. Got them from Cycles Toussaint
Sometimes they are on eBay. Tried to contact Dia Compe, never got a reply.

Those bosses do not have an integrated spring socket like some do. They do have a flat for mountingdedicated washers with a spring anchor hole. Those washers are sort of hard to find, and I don’t know of a source offhand. They should look something like this:

Hoping with the additional brakes already installed, there might be some more interest in this bike.

That is one of Bernard Thevenet’s bikes. I believe it was one from the Giro in 1977. He was riding it at a vintage themed ride in France several years back. Well worn, but pretty snazzy, eh?

Take a (n extra) bridge from the brake you intend to mount; best if the post width matches the fork's exactly.
Remove the posts and sufficient aluminium from the bridge such that when mounted to the fork's centre hole, it is snug against the fork's posts.
Install the rest of the brake.

Robvolz - you need this kit to set up the brakes: https://www.cyclestoussaint.com/coll...n-assembly-kit
They're $20 a set and you'll need two sets. Cycles Toussaint is the only North American supplier I know of; otherwise they have to be ordered from Japan. Although I do have some spares in the shop - PM if interested.
