I had raspberry Zingers and a chocolate milk on the El Paso to Tucson leg of my road trip last weekend, and it was divine.

I almost never touch Cupcakes, Ding Dongs etc or any kind of soda... unless it's in the middle of an 80+ mile ride, then they just hit the spot.

I drink WAY too much Diet Pepsi on a daily basis, but don't touch a Hostess rack very often. On any ride of 50+ miles, the guidelines for good eating habits fade rapidly.

I used to stop at what was then a bike-friendly Chevron station in Woodside and grab a Snickers and a quart of Gatorade after 40-50 miles for the 15 mile ride home through a Suburban Food Desert. This was after that time that I passed that same station feeling slightly peckish and bonked hard with 3 miles to get home, nobody at home to pick me up, and no cell phone to call them with even if I'd wanted to.

Correct. My favorite rest stop snack at 80 miles into a hot century is a medium-size bag of potato chips. Good mix of salt/carbs, and readily available anywhere because USA.

Washed the blood and dirt out of my kit, from the other day, and sent pics off to Rapha for assessment for their free repair service. It's actually in much better shape than I'd expected -
I think that the hole in the sleeve is from my Fitbit punching through - I only have light scratches in that area. Meanwhile, the elbow area is completely intact, yet *my* elbow looks like 85% chuck.
The bib tear is from my hip punching through - I'll take that as a sign that I've lost a goodly amount of weight. I also have road rash on my rump but, like the jersey, there's no corresponding damage to the garment. Odd.
I would hope (expect?) that Rapha will be able to repair these and do so reasonably well.

Y'all eat too much - work on efficiency and fat adaptation.
My last ride (87 miles), I had a bowl of steel cut oats before leaving home, a granola bar ~25 miles in and a pack of Hostess Cupcakes at a gas station at about 50 miles.
Of course, the last ~25 miles were powered by crash-fueled adrenaline, but pay no attention to that part.

I just wish there was consistency to my bodies needs. Sometimes I need food at mile 30 other times I won’t eat til mile 75.
Today I ate at mile 40 and still crashed and burned at mile 71. Came out of no where.

Lady I used to ride with in the mountains would bring those little pretzel squares stuffed with peanut butter. After a few hours of climbing they were divine. Sometimes she brought dried apricots. I don't know if it was because she was a mom but she liked feeding others on rides.

Realistically, though, you should have a couple thousands calories in the bank to start the day, which should get you three hours or so at a hard pace. If you're getting less than that, maybe it's a general diet thing?
