4000 gtx road bike

Does anyone have any info on this bike? There's almost nothing about it on the web. Is this a worthy bike with good components? They have one for sale on Facebook.

It's just a bike. Used it's not worth but what you are willing to spend to be able to pedal something around. New, not much more. Even googling for this bike, mostly google seemed to think this is a NVIDIA video board or chipset.

Welcome to BF.

"Open Road" was a Montgomery Ward store brand. A number of threads on them.

I think that he expected a reasonable answer to his question and not a troll post.

Ah ok. Sounds like the sort of mail order catalogue junk we used to see in the 70s and 80s. I can't imagine what state they would be in 40+ years later.

I agree that a certain player of fat games of chance might be a little ... acerbic ... at times .....

I really like helping when people are unsure how to type "g-o-o-g-l-e" but int his case my first thought was .... "If you really want help .... maybe make Some effort? Tell us what brand, at least?"

This post was like, "I have a two-door car, what is it?"

If the person is not even interested enough to post the info on the down tube I am not going to google it.

I am glad others took the bai .... made the effort.

I tried to include a pic of it in my post, it wouldn't let me.
I submitted this post with what I could barely discern with what was written on the bike frame, and that's all the reference I had (sorry!). It's usually enough to identify by (e.g. 4000 gtx 12 speed". I addressed the forum in good faith, so the Negative Nelly condescending is pretty juvenile.

The bike appears to be a cheap, vintage road bike with low end components. It’s current condition will be key to its worthiness to ride.

Best I could find was a post about a person who bought one for $75 and a picture of one bought for $15.

Is there a serial number? Any other numbers anywhere? Usually there is a serial number under the bottom bracket. often there are decals on the front of the seat tube near the bottom bracket.

If it is being sold for very few dollars on Facebook it is probably not very good. Also, it will probably need some work. What level of proficiency do you have with bike repair.

If you are basing this on a picture on facebook ... have you asked the seller? If you can inspect the bike in person, can you see the components? Most derailleurs and crank sets will have some markings.

It has been said here before, but I will say it again.

If you don't like what someone has posted, or how they posted it, or you don't like their lack of bicycling terms knowledge, simply move on to another thread.

Posts like the one in question tend to drive away new forum members. I am glad that jameyH has stuck around. Many haven't.
