I applaud the complete replacement.
knowing how things go up in the PNW… wet paint.
my only question is was the old dropout cut in two before removal? I would probably vote that way as easier to get the brazing at one stay to release than two at a time, and of course I do not have a big torch.

Well, assembly of the Vincitore has begun! I messed with cleaning up the paint a bit and it didn't amount to much except to peel some more of the original clear coat off in places. I masked off and sprayed the repair with Rustoleum primer, navy blue enamel, and clear to prevent it from rusting.
I have all the parts on hand except bolts for the bottom bracket spindle, so I'll do a little more touch up paint on some spots that have exposed steel and then go into the shop on Tuesday to get the bolts and have them tighten on the crankset.
With the frame elevated I was able to measure it more accurately than before, and am slightly disappointed to learn that it's 1/2" taller than I thought (25" c-t), which is 1/2" taller than what I told myself would be the largest frame I'd like to ride... The standover height is just 1/2" below my inseam, so we'll see where this all goes because of that.

You are young so you have time to enjoy this bike......you won't start to lose height for many years. I do have a bike that fit fine twenty years ago and is up against my inseam now - but I'm well on my way to becoming a fossil.

Ha, sorry, but that's temporary! If I enjoy riding the bike it'll get refinished at Mercian. Up close the clear coat is in very poor condition, either cloudy or cracking throughout and it can't be buffed to a shine almost anywhere.
