1987 Cannondale frame. ID? Shifter Boss problem.

According to the serial number decoder on VintageCannondale.com this frame was built in Oct 1987. The fork is stamped 1988 on the steerer tube.

I've looked at the catalogues for both years (87 and 88) and don't see anything resembling the flashy purple iridescent-like paint job so I'm thinking it is a repaint, albeit well done, with decals that vintagecannondale.com says were used from 1997-1999.

The fork steerer is stamped Tange.7.G.

Overall the frame seems to be in decent shape. The big problem, however, is that the downtube shifter boss assembly is not securely attached to the frame. I would appreciate any insights as to whether the assembly is complete or missing part(s) (e.g. a plastic piece for the drive side?) And how to securely reattach the assembly to the frame.

Here's the assembly:

The plastic piece was on the NDS. It's broken and I'm also curious as to why there are holes in it.

Here's the downtube (NDS) showing where the bosses are placed. Also curious about the small secondary holes in the downtube, one on each side. Are they factory or user drilled?

There are lots of pictures in this album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/148676...h/51882126624/

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers.

Brad

I'll assume the second hole is for the little stud on the boss shown in the linked thread.

Definitely a respray. Downtube extra holes and what appears to be a depression around the shifter mount hole indicate perhaps some ham-fisted mechanical work.
Most Cannondale frames of that era used only one hole for the shifter mount. Those with two holes had the second hole fore or aft of the main hole, not below.
Plastic part is missing a mate, the other one has little nubs that fit into the little holes, which allow the metal nut to be tightened while maintaining the correct orientation for the shifter.

Sadly, this is not an unusual situation with older Cannnondale frames that have been parted out or repainted. Small parts get lost, misplaced, or thrown away and they are very, very hard to find.
At least you have the FD mount, these also often disappear.

I replaced a shifter boss with a new set recently. You can have these extra pieces if you need them, just send me a pm.

Someone really cranked on that.
My 1986 st500 matches your frame with the small anchor pin below the through hole. My 1990 has the hole in front of the through hole. You are definitely missing a few pieces. You will need to watch(if you find pieces) that the base has a pin at the bottom. It might be a challenge to find the right ones.
