Motivation; Lack of. Chasing A Specific Bike.
A long shot...admins, please delete if this is not appropriate.
So, I've been struggling to find motivation, even as I see all the great posts here about great rides and personal posts. And there's this bike...or rather, there WAS this bike. And maybe there still is. It is a red Viscount lugless bike with a sloping fork crown. It is a 19 inch frame. From the 80s. And I gave it to a woman I was trying to curry favor with. In 1990. I *think* it traveled to Washington state. I doubt if she kept it; she was not much of a cyclist. So she may have given it or sold it up there somewhere.
I *think* that if I had it back, I would be quite a bit more inspired. Not that I don't have other bikes. But this one was a very uncommon bike, not terribly fashionable or popular. But I liked it a lot. It was a perfect fit.
I wouldn't mind talking with the woman again. But that bike! So if anyone has maybe heard of it, I'd like to bring it home. Thanks for any help.
Clarification: Yes, I have other bikes that are equal or better quality. Much better. Like my Nishiki pro. No, it is not about the woman. No, the bike does not have the death fork. It has a normal steel fork with a sloping crown. Before I gave it to her, I rode it on one century, one metric, and several shorter but still long rides. Yes, it should not about the specific bike. Except that it is. For me. And that is valid. Feelings do not have to be logical.
Thanks for any reflections.

I think you are looking for excuses to avoid riding what you have. Give up trying to find your old bike. There may be other Viscounts out there if you search and finding a similar one would satisfy you.

my 2 cents and worth at least half of that
1) you posted this so you really want to ride,
2) grab the nishiki, treat it to new high quality tires and lighter tubes, which will make a huge difference in ride and field
3) ride....you really want to, that first ride will help break loose the ennui.
3) go to classic and vintage and post a WTB in the sale forum (need to be a paid member) for a viscount you might be surprised to see what shows up

I saw a red Viscount riding around Seattle Washington years back. Might have been headed to sunny California to dry out. Or to Kansas City with a crazy little woman.

Good luck.
There’s a red 21” Viscount on eBay if you’re interested in looking.
