Tricky brake hood

i need to replace my rear brake cable and handle bar tape but trying to see how the brake handle comes off the handlebar seems to be a challenge. Looking down through the cable holder I don't see any screw behind it nor is there a screw on the reverse side. The hoods are a black rubber mold which fit over a hard black casing attached to the handlebar.

Does this look familiar to anyone and if so, where do I release it to get it off the handlebar? There was a small screw behind the lever where you can see that squarish opening but when I removed it, it just held place a small spring in place which controlled the brake lever mechanism.

You don't even need to be able to see the target. You should be able to just stick the long end of the Allen wrench into the hole, blind, and it will butt right against the cap screw. Jiggle/rotate the end until you feel it drop in to engage and Bob's yer uncle.
